Taylor Swift’s big reputation brought her blockbuster earnings at the box office.
Pop superstar concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour it hit theaters on October 12 and drew huge audiences on its opening weekend. According to distributor AMC Theatres, the film brought in $92.8 million in ticket sales during its three-day debut period and Thursday night previews, making it the fifth-biggest theatrical opening of the year.
AMC Theater announced its final box office opening weekend for the film version of the career-spanning Eras Tour of the pop superstar, 33, on Monday. It is playing in 3,855 cinemas across the country, Eras Tour opened with a $24,073 per-screen average, grossing $37.5 million on Friday, $32 million on Saturday and $23.2 on Sunday.
The film, directed by documentarian Sam Wrench, is now No. 1 at the box office in the US, Canada, the UK, Mexico, Australia, Germany and the Philippines, according to AMC Theatres.

The concert film is now the fifth biggest opening of the year. The following is a hugely successful film by Greta Gerwig Barbie movie, Movie Super Mario Bros, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. (Barbie brought in a three-day revenue of $162 million, Movie Super Mario Bros debuted with $146 million and Spider-Verse and Guardians of the Galaxy opened with $120 million and $118 million, respectively, per Box Office Mojo). It breaks out Oppenheimerwhich opened with $82 million and arrived in theaters in tandem with Barbie.
While the film was originally scheduled to be released on October 13, Swift announced at the Los Angeles premiere on Wednesday that it will be coming to theaters a day early. Only on that Thursday night — which replaced the first date for which many fans bought tickets in advance — Diversity announced that the film grossed $2.8 million.
The new release also broke a major box office record in the concert film genre. Because Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour opened with $92.8 million, becoming the highest-grossing concert film of all time. In just its first weekend of release, the film surpassed Justin Bieber’s 2011 documentary Never say neverwhich grossed $73 million domestically during its run, according to Box Office Mojo.
According to Diversity, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour it technically became the highest-grossing concert film in history before it even hit theaters. Thanks to advance global ticket sales that totaled $100 million, the project brought him $1 million more than Justin Bieber: Never say nevertotal global earnings of $99 million.

Because Swift has signed a publishing deal with AMC Entertainment Eras Tour instead of a traditional studio, the box office numbers are a particularly successful financial gain for the star. According to Matthew Belloni, who first reported the terms of Swift’s theater deal in his Puck newsletter, 43 percent of the film’s gross profits will go to theaters, with the remaining 57 percent split (in an unspecified split) between Swift and AMC.
As soon as the tickets went on sale in early September, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour accomplished several feats. The film broke AMC’s all-time single-day advance ticket sales record to become Fandango’s best first-day ticket seller of the year so far.
No other major new releases hit theaters last weekend around the time of Swift’s theatrical event, in part because Exorcist: Believer he previously pushed the release date a week earlier to October 6th.
When the sequel to the horror film announced a schedule shift back in August, producer Jason Blum revealed the news in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) with a nod to one of the singer-songwriter’s lyrics. “Look what you made me do,” he wrote. “The Exorcist: Believer moves to 10/6/23” #TaylorWins.”

Swift celebrated the release herself on Wednesday at the Grove’s AMC theater in LA. She stepped out in a blue Oscar De La Renta gown made of textured floral cutouts and was joined by several celebrity guests, including Beyoncé.
The theatrical concert experience is currently shown in cinemas across the country four times a day on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Tickets to the movie are $19.89 (plus tax) for adults and $13.13 (plus tax) for children and seniors, according to the Grammy winner’s date and year of birth.
It’s unclear how soon the three-hour film will be in theaters, though AMC is currently selling tickets through November 5.
