Taylor Swift Puts a Sexy Twist on Plaid in Corseted, Vampy Look at 2024 MTV VMAs – and It's Giving Reputation

Taylor Swift continues her streak of hot, show-stopping styles at the 2024 VMAs!

The chart-topper commanded the red carpet at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards in one of her most glamorous — and daring — looks to date.

Giving a totally sexy style to her love of prepping, Swift paired a yellow plaid bustier top with attached skirt with a pair of black velvet hot pants and caged leather gloves, all Dior. She also kept up her thigh-high boot streak with a pair of Stuart Weitzman’s Maverick Boots, which retail for $1,200 and are currently sold out. She completed the look with an extra vampy glamor look (a smoky eye!) and even ditched her signature red lip. Her hair was tousled, textured waves and side swept bangs. You can feel the sharp vibe of the look Reputation-coded, and left fans digging for Easter eggs.

And of course she was bejeweled, wearing 30-carat Lorraine Schwartz pear-shaped canary earrings with yellow diamonds surrounded by black jade to create a yellow checkered look.

Swift earned the most nominations of any artist this year, 12, including Artist of the Year, Video of the Year and Song of the Year. Her “Fortnight” collaborator Post Malone trails her with nine names.

Last year, Swift was called out by fans for serving Reputation vibes with her look (she has yet to announce her re-recording album) as she arrived at the event in a bare skin Versace dress with a thigh-high slit and gold buttons along the pleated bodice. She accessorized her look with layers of necklaces and black heels, even skipping her signature red lip color for a natural, mauve shade.

At the time, Versace’s creative director Donatella Versace shared a sweet message on Instagram about creating the look for her.

She wrote: “@taylorswift couldn’t be more proud to design this dress for your beautiful entrance at the VMAs tonight. You’ve dominated the world with your tour and your music is timeless. You’re already winning tonight! Love you ♥️”

In 2022, Swift famously made a surprise appearance in a crystal-encrusted Oscar de la Renta mini dress with an open back. She paired the sparkly design (and made an entire rug glimpse) with matching Christian Louboutin heels, Lorraine Schwartz jewels and her signature red lips.

Swift chose beauty icon Pat McGrath for her makeup moment. McGrath called the singer his “angel” on Instagram.

The 2024 VMAs come after a very busy week for the star, who is on hiatus from her historic Eras tour until October.

She kicked off the NFL season at boyfriend Travis Kelce’s opening game in Kansas City on September 5, wearing a fascinating denim look (including a Versace bustier and Grlfrnd denim shorts) and Giuseppe Zanotti thigh-high boots. The moment sparked a string of chic evening looks from the star, including a dreamy dress moment at model Karen Elson’s wedding and a chic red gingham Reformation mini dress at the US Open on Sunday with a Gucci-clad Kelce.

Swift also focused on interacting with fans during her tour break and outlining what’s important to her — like getting out the vote.

After Tuesday’s presidential debate, the pop icon took to social media to endorse Kamala Harris for president.

“I will vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential election,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself holding her cat Benjamin. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she’s fighting for rights and things that I believe need warriors to defend. I think she’s a stable, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if she leads peace, not chaos. I was so encouraged and impressed by her choice of rival @timwalz, who has been advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”

She proudly (and famously) signed the message “Childless Cat Lady”.
