Terry Crews, Sheryl Lee Ralph and More React to Andre Braugher’s Death: ‘You Left Us Too Soon’

Stars across Hollywood are reacting to the death of Andre Braugher.

PEOPLE confirmed that the actor, known for his roles in series such as Murder: Life on the Street and Brooklyn Nine-Ninedied on Monday after a recent illness at the age of 61.

One of the first to speak up was Terry Crews, who worked with the actor Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

“I can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts. You left us too soon,” Crews, 55, wrote on Instagram.

Crews praised Braugher for teaching him “so much” and expressed that he was “grateful for the experience of knowing you.”

“Thank you for your wisdom, advice, kindness and friendship. My deepest condolences to your wife and family at this difficult time. You have shown me what a life well lived looks like,” he added.

Niecy Nash-Betts also reflected on working with Braugher on the hit sitcom, writing in her own Instagram post, “RIP @andrebraugher 🥺 we had so much fun filming @brooklyn99 when I played his sister. Such a great guy… . my deepest condolences to his friends and family 🙏🏾.”

Marc Evan Jackson, who played Braugher’s on-screen husband Brooklyn Nine-Nineshared a touching photo of the two on xformally known as Twitter, and wrote: “Oh Captain. My Captain.”

Official Peacock and Brooklyn Nine-Nine Instagram accounts shared a joint post that read: “Always our captain. We love you Andre.”

Shonda Rhimes, who produced his latest project The Residenceshe shared a photo of Braugher on Instagram and wrote that she was “deeply saddened by the news” of his death.

“I mourn not only the loss of an extraordinary actor but, more deeply, the passing of a warm and kind soul. His talent was undeniable, but it was his genuine kindness that truly set him apart. Rest in peace,” added Rhimes.

Wire wrote creator David Simon x“Andre Braugher. God. I’ve worked with a lot of wonderful actors. I’ll never work with a better one. In awe and thinking about Ama and his sons and so many memories of this good man that are a blessing now. But too soon.”

Nick Cannon shared a black and white picture of himself and Braugher on Instagram. “🕊️ Brilliant and beautiful soul! Now set free! To be absent from the Body is to be present with the Lord! Rest in Heaven King🙏🏾,” Cannon wrote.

Ryan Michelle Bathe shared a news article on x and wrote: “May he rest in peace. My heart goes out to his loved ones.” Bathe is married to Sterling K. Brown, who hosted the Brooklyn Nine-Nine and hack, which also starred Braugher.

Arrow star Kirk Acevedo shared a photo of Braugher on x and wrote: “Andre Braugher, rest in peace. I loved watching him work. Whenever he stepped on stage he commanded attention. A terrible loss and taken from family and friends too soon” Also on xwrote Sheryl Lee Ralph, “This really shook me! RIP Andre!”

In his tribute, Al Roker shared a photo of Braugher on Instagram and remembered him for his “honesty and integrity.”

“Such sad news of the passing of @andrebraugher at age 61. His honesty and integrity shined through every role he played. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. #andrebraugher,” added Roker.

During his career, Braugher received 11 Emmy nominations. He won his first Emmy in 1998 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Murder and secured his second win for the 2006 miniseries Thief.
