The Bailey Family: All About Sisters Halle, Chloe and Ski

Ski, Chloe and Halle Bailey are a talented trio.

Halle and Chloe rose to fame as teenagers when they started posting videos of themselves singing covers online. While they were in front of the camera, Ski (pronounced “sky”) was filming.

The first song they ever covered was Beyoncé’s “Best Thing I Never Had” in 2011. “We were burning [the song] on CD, put it in our stereo, and our older sister was behind the tripod,” Chloe recalled to PEOPLE. “She would press play with her toe while looking at the camera.”

In 2023, the Bailey family grew by one when Halle gave birth to her first child with boyfriend DDG.

“[We’re] on cloud nine,” Chloe told PEOPLE following the arrival of her nephew Halo.

They grew up in the south

Courtney and Doug Bailey welcomed Chloe and Halle in Atlanta, and the sisters grew up in nearby Mableton, Georgia. In addition to their older sister Ski, they also have a younger brother named Branson.

At the age of 3, Chloe got her first acting role in Battle trials (2003) as a younger version of the character Beyoncé. It turned out to be the start of her career as she later recalled to PEOPLE how she and Halle showcased their musical talent growing up.

“We’d be performing in clubs in our church dresses in Atlanta and then we’d run off singing for producers outside the hotel,” she said in March 2023.

Chloe and Halle moved to Los Angeles in their early teens as their careers took off. The two started posting covers on YouTube when Chloe was 13 and Halle 11, and quickly gained attention. To top things off, Beyoncé signed the sisters to Parkwood Entertainment when they were 18 and 16.

But while Chloe and Halle are originally from Georgia, Ski calls Charleston, South Carolina his home and lives there today.

“Charleston is home. I was born here,” Ski said in a video interview with Togethxr in May 2023. “I’ve stopped by New York and Atlanta, but Charleston was always home.”

Chloe and Halle rose to fame as a duo, Chloe x Halle. Since signing to Parkwood Entertainment in 2015, the sisters’ careers have soared with the release of their EP Sugar symphony 2016 and mixtape The two of us in 2017.

Chloe x Halle’s debut album, The children are fine, followed in 2018 and earned them two Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Best Urban Contemporary Album. Their next album. An ungodly hourreleased in 2020, earned them three additional Grammy nominations, including Best R&B Song for “Do It.”

Now that they’re exploring their individual acting and solo music careers, the duo continues to support each other amid the comparisons. During an interview in 2023 on Apple Music 1 777 RadioChloe has spoken out about the remarks, which she previously called “shallow”.

“I think it gets under my skin the most when people compare us because we are best friends, we are sisters,” she said. “Sometimes we forget that we’re not twins and it’s like, don’t mess with my blood. Don’t mess with her.”

Ski is proud to be a part of her sisters’ journey

In her interview with Togethxr, Ski opened up about her relationships with famous artists.

“Being a big sister to Chloe and Halle is very interesting,” she said. “Seeing them grow and develop has been a tremendous journey. And to be a part of that is amazing too.”

She added that growing up she felt like a “second mom” to her younger siblings.

Ski works as a paralegal and is an aspiring film director

Ski has been involved in her sisters’ careers and has Hollywood ambitions, but her current work is far from the limelight. She works as a paralegal in Charleston at a tax and estate planning law firm—a role she fell into while researching building generational wealth for her future family.

Ski previously worked on TV production teams and in PR for Chloe and Halle during their early careers. “I have a degree in public relations, so I always thought, ‘Okay, what can we do next?’ “, she told Togethxr. “But then it got to the point where, okay, now they have the people to do it.”

As for the future, he wants to return to entertainment and dreams of working in film. “I would like to be known as a world-famous director. I want to make films that affect people, that start conversations, that cause change,” she said. “My dream project would have to be with Shonda Rhimes and Ava DuVernay.”

In 2022, Ski released a short film called What to do with daddy issues? on his Instagram.

“It was a journey to release this film. I started working on it in 2018. I got discouraged and put it off,” she wrote in the description. “But God recently prompted me to finish it and publish it because there is a message that needs to be heard.”

Ski continued, “In that time, I’ve grown even more on my journey. Things have changed and it’s all truly divine. There’s so much more to say, but I pray this sparks a conversation about healing.”

It was not easy for Chloe and Halle to separate their careers

In addition to their critically acclaimed musical work together, Chloe and Halle’s acting careers have overlapped. Both siblings appeared on the ABC sitcom Grown as twins Jazz and Sky Forster for 53 episodes from 2018 to 2022.

The following year, in March 2023, Chloe released her debut album, In parts, which was either sister’s first solo project. This marked the beginning of their independent work – an aspect that took time to get used to.

“We both had a lot of separation anxiety,” Chloe previously told PEOPLE In parts‘ release. “We’ve been joined at the hip since she came out of the womb.”

She continued: “We both didn’t know who we were individually without the other. There was a moment of self-doubt when I thought, ‘Can I do this without my sister?’ ”

Chloe was cast in a limited series of Donald Glover’s satirical thriller Swarm (2023) and Paun’s musical comedy Praise this (2023).

Meanwhile, Halle starred in a live-action film adaptation Little Mermaid (2023) and upcoming Purple a movie musical that will premiere in December. In between, she also debuted her first solo single, “Angel,” with a full album in the works.

One of Halle’s most exciting career moments came when she was cast as Ariel in the live-action remake of the film Little Mermaid (2023). Both Chloe and Ski were overjoyed to see their sister take on the iconic role, especially as she brought racial diversity and black representation to the world of Disney princesses.

In May 2023, Ski posted photos from the premiere on Instagram and wrote: “@hallebailey was amazing in the movie. This was such a beautiful and historic moment. Proud I can’t explain how I feel.”

Chloe recalled seeing the trailer for the film for the first time during an appearance on April 2023. The Drew Barrymore Show.

“I was screaming and crying,” Chloe told host Drew Barrymore. “I let it all out and just screamed because she’s a real mermaid, a mermaid, graceful in all her beauty, and people can see what I’ve always seen since we were little girls.”

Sisters are all about being supportive

Chloe, Halle and Ski are incredibly encouraging of each other, whether it’s in their careers or their personal lives.

“It’s always been about the support,” Ski told Togethxr. “That’s the one thing I really, really love, the support I feel when I’m with my sisters. They are like my best friends.”

She added: “I’m one with Chloe and different with Halle, because… they’re very different. But at the same time, we’re all the same. When we’re all together, we all sound the same, we all laugh the same.”

Chloe told PEOPLE that Halle supported her when she had doubts about her solo album.

“I would say, ‘I’m so scared. I don’t know if people want to listen to this. I don’t think I can do this without you,'” the actress said. “She’d be like, ‘You’re always telling me to let people see what you’ve always seen in me since we were little girls.’ ”

As for Halle, she shared that Chloe inspired her to be more confident in herself, especially with her style.

“My confidence has grown deeper and bigger with the help of my sister,” she said Cosmopolitan in 2023. “She was always an extroverted, sexy, demanding kind of presence. As I looked at her, I said, ‘That’s so cool.’ I hope one day I can do that. She helps me find my footing in this whole world of grown women.”

Chloe and Ski kept Halle’s pregnancy a secret

Halle and her boyfriend, DDG, welcomed their son, Halo, in late 2023. While many fans speculated that Halle and the rapper were pregnant, the actress never confirmed her pregnancy before Halle’s arrival.

“The best kept secret ever,” Chloe said during an interview with PEOPLE in January 2024. “I keep all her other secrets. So this was just another one in the books.”
