The Bear’s Matty Matheson Reveals Hilarious First Encounter with Jamie Lee Curtis: ‘Now We’re Friends!’

Bear star Matty Matheson has an epic story when it comes to his first meeting with Jamie Lee Curtis!

Speaking with Diversitythe Canadian celebrity chef and restaurateur-turned-actor, 42, opened up about meeting the star before she guest-starred on the hit Hulu series.

“The first time I saw Jamie was at the Golden Globes or something, before she came on in season two,” Matheson said, calling the moment “crazy” in an interview published Thursday, June 27.

The actor, who plays handyman Neil Fak in the drama, recalled being at the event and asking Bear series creator Christopher Storer for advice on how to approach Curtis, 65.

“We were in the ballroom and there weren’t many people there. I called Chris and said, ‘Can I just go up and say hello to her?’ And he said: ‘Sure! Go tell what’s up!’ Matheson said Diversity.

“We just hit it off. She is so cute. She is our big mom. She is with us all the time, even when she is not on the screen. It’s amazing to be around someone like that, a real icon,” Matheson said of Curtis.

He added that her comedy was from 1983 Trading places was his family’s favorite movie when he was younger.

Curtis starred in the film alongside Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. The plot follows “one twisted bet” that takes the manager and the conman out of their usual surroundings and into mutually opposite worlds.

“We loved that movie growing up. Never in a million years — and now we’re friends! We send messages! She is a really amazing person,” Matheson said.

Although the third season was announced this week, Matheson added that filming for the fourth season has also been completed. That’s why it’s a challenge not to drop spoilers about things that haven’t happened yet when talking to journalists.

“We can’t talk about a bunch of stuff. But somehow I forget everything, which is perfect because I say: ‘I don’t even know’. I haven’t even watched the season, actually,” he admitted. “I’ve seen some edits and some early episodes, but I’ve only actually seen episodes 1 through 4.”
