The Bold and the Beautiful's Kimberlin Brown Was 'Very Surprised' by Her Character's Death and Revival (Exclusive)

Just because a character dies in a soap opera doesn’t mean they’re gone forever.

Kimberlin Brown, who plays Sheila Carter Brave and beautiful, she learned this firsthand when her evil character was killed off the show in February, after being stabbed by her daughter-in-law Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). But in the April 29 episode of the show, Sheila was revealed to be very much alive.

During an interview with PEOPLE at the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards on June 7, Brown told PEOPLE that she was “very surprised” to learn that Sheila’s fate was not sealed forever and that she would, in fact, be returning to the popular soap.

“It was upsetting when I found out I was going to be killed off the show. It’s a call you never want to get,” she said, adding, “You keep a stiff upper lip, and you’re very professional, and then you go home, and you kind of pour yourself a drink and think about it.”

Brown previously said she had mixed feelings about her character’s departure from the show during an interview with TV Insider in February.

“It’s hard for me to be right now; I’m not going to lie about this,” Brown told the newspaper at the time. “I guess if anyone was going to take Sheila down, I’m happy it’s Steffy. I just wish no one had knocked Sheila down.”

“It’s my happy place where I’ve been blessed for over 35 years,” she continued. “But I’ve had good results in it, so I’m one of the lucky ones, there’s no doubt about that.”

Brown also said filming her character’s death scene was not only emotionally draining, but physically demanding as well. “Can I just say the consequences for Sheila, lying on the concrete floor for hours, it really hurts! I was bruised all week from lying on the concrete!” she explained.

So getting a call back Brave and beautiful proved to be an “emotional moment” for the 62-year-old actress, she explained to PEOPLE at the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards on June 7.

“When they called me back, I said, ‘Wow,’ … I didn’t have to think long, because like I said, she was my baby. I played her for over 35 years and that phone call meant everything to me,” she said, adding, “I didn’t want to put her [Sheila] still in bed, and because of the fan base and their outpouring of comments, phone calls, what happened with the ratings, they brought me back.”

When her character died earlier this year, Brown truly believed that, after more than 1,150 episodes, it was the end for her on Brave and beautiful. So she bought land in Montana where she digs up the dirt and builds a home. Brown also plans to keep his place in Los Angeles and commute back and forth between the two.

The actress will also begin tackling another role on June 26 when her daughter-in-law Kaila, who is married to Brown’s son Nick Pelzer, is due to give birth to a baby girl. Thinking about her future granddaughter, Brown said she couldn’t be more “thrilled.”

“I will have someone to play with again. Children grow up and the whole dynamic changes for the better,” she says. “But anyway, it’ll give me a chance to pamper somebody, teach them to go fishing and hiking and riding horses—do all that—and then send them home when they’re tired.”
