Trailer for The Exchange on Netflix.
A lengthy and detailed trailer for the upcoming six-part show explains everything the show is meant to bring. The Middle East is known for its gender imbalance. Netflix is about to dive into Arabian Nights and illustrate how two 1980s women decided to swim upstream. The teaser also states that the series is based on real events, implying that it is part of American history. The trailer shows how the men don’t want to enter “their” world of business, which eventually leads to a serious conflict between them with Farida and Munira after a lengthy introduction to women and the world of banking. Farida and Munira will also be fascinating characters with their own stories.
The summary of the show is as follows:
“Set in Kuwait in 1988, on the brink of Saddam Hussein’s invasion of the country, two women join the men’s club of the Kuwait Stock Exchange.”
Nadia Ahmad, Anne Sobel and Adam Sobel founded the Exchange. In an interview with Variety, Ahmad and producer Abdullah Boushahri revealed a lot about the project, including their vision. Nadia Ahmad clearly chose this topic because of her own financial situation.
Nadia Ahmad explained in an interview:
“Investment banking was an important business in Kuwait in the 1970s and 1980s. There was enough money to go around, but not enough people to run it, you know what I mean? … My mother is a single mother who is solely responsible for my financial situation.
Ahmad went on to say:
So she worked in investment banking, and I was surrounded by women who were doing the same work, who were breaking stereotypes about Khaleej. [Arabic Peninsula] women. These women were pioneers, the first to enter the male-dominated arena.
In the same interview, Boushahri commented on the subject, saying:
“It’s a workplace story, so it’s pretty hard to make it interesting. So, at first, the subject seemed quite difficult. I am worried that participating in a program that only handles offices and individuals will find it difficult to follow the audience.”
Exchange will be available on Netflix on February 8, 2023. Stay tuned for more info.
