First one on one

The ladies’ living situation was forgotten when host Jesse Palmer arrived with a business card for a date.

After sharing cookies and a kiss with Gerry in last week’s episode, Theresa’s birthday celebration continued when she landed her first date of the season with The Bachelorette.

“I’m incredibly excited to have my first one-on-one date,” she said, “but I’m also really a little scared because, you know, I think I have a relationship with Gerry, but Billy was the love of my life and can I find her again?”

The financial services professional explained that she had her late husband’s blessing to find love again, saying: “Before my husband Billy died, he actually said to me, ‘I hope you find someone, I hope you get married again ‘.”

Their first date got off to a rocky start when Gerry struggled to drive a vintage convertible on a California freeway without the lights on, but Theresa made sure to reassure him with a comfortable hand on his shoulder, making him feel “at ease” immediately.

As the night continued at the diner, the couple bonded over the wedding of their high school sweethearts, and she opened up about Billy’s death, saying, “He’s passed away. What ended up happening was that his kidneys were not doing well. Billy had always hoped for a kidney transplant, but one day when I was at work, he suddenly took a turn for the worse, I ran home and watched him take his last breath.”

“I’m sorry. Losing a spouse is the worst thing, I know how it feels,” said Gerry, referring to the death of his wife Toni six years ago.

Gerry saw similarities in their previous experiences, saying: “Theresa’s story was so similar to mine. Suddenly, my emotions about my loss just by looking at her and listening to her were a little different. Not once did I break down from crying. I felt like I was talking to someone who understood the loss of a spouse.”

“During the evening date, I hoped to have a relationship with Theresa, but when I discovered the depth of that relationship, it was far beyond the expectations I had,” he added.

Gerry then told her that they had both “Been to Hell and Back” but still had “Hope” and were “Don’t Stop Believin'” as the diner’s employees and patrons started a flash mob to the iconic Journey song. from 1981. Of course, the pair then kissed and joined the dance party before Teresa accepted a rose from Gerry.

Group date

The romance novel cover shoot was the backdrop for Gerry’s first group date. 12 women were then given 10 minutes to choose clothes for the photos.

Leslie, 54, wasn’t thrilled to be stuck with an 80s-style leather jacket when all the 70s hippie outfits came crashing down before she could grab one. She was upset that Natascha, 60, ended up with the groovy look she wanted, saying: “I’m allowed to feel upset. I am allowed to feel it. But once I show my feelings, I’m over it.”

April, Jeanie, Kathy and Gerry — wearing a Fabio-style wig — posed for a “Desire Island” photo shoot. But Kathy, 70, disapproved of Gerry’s haircut, saying: “Honestly, Gerry had a bad hair day today, to be honest. He looked more like his dog than Gerry, but he’s a good sportsman [and] he played it well.”

Next, Natascha, Susan, Joan, Christina wore their 70’s inspired looks for the “Summer of Love” themed shoot, while Leslie and Edith had fun with their 80’s inspired “Road to Passion” looks.

The shoot ended with the final trio – Ellen, 71, Nancy, 60 and Sandra – wearing wedding dresses that had Nancy overcome with emotion.

“Suddenly all those emotions came back. The best day of my life was getting married to my husband Mark,” she explained, choking up. “I know that in my rational mind. I know that – he passed away. It’s been 12 years, but I remember my wedding and how I felt that day.”

Gerry immediately noticed that Nancy was struggling with the recording and wanted to know what was wrong. “I’ll be honest with you,” she admitted. “I haven’t worn a wedding dress in 36 years, and that was when I married the love of my life.” Gerry said he can relate after losing his wife.

The group meeting ended with Nancy receiving a rose from Gerry. He said, “Nancy, you and I shared a story of our loss, and your history and mine kind of coincided.”

Faith, who received her first impression rose but didn’t receive a date card during the week, spoke one-on-one with Gerry during the party. “I’m a little worried that I’m not keeping up with the other ladies, you know, maybe he sees me and even forgets that he made a first impression on me,” she said in an interview.

Despite saying she felt “quite out of place” compared to other women, the 60-year-old high school teacher felt a connection to The Golden Bachelor because “Gerry makes me feel special every time I see him. And just the way he looks at me, I’m just attracted to him. I’m sure every woman here feels that, but he’s really beautiful.”

And even though it was his Gerry’s birthday, he surprised Ellen with a present — a photo from the shooting of their romance novel. “He has a mansion full of beautiful women and he took the time to frame a picture of my past relationship with him that made him happy,” she said. “I feel so special, and honestly, I haven’t felt special in a long time.”

Rose ceremony

Gerry began the rose ceremony by saying, “We all met a few days ago. We were strangers. We knew nothing about each other. And today, I look at this group of women and you are all my friends. That makes a night like this really hard for me, but I know this process is working and I hope you know I have high, strong feelings for all of you.”

Leslie, Joan, Edith, Ellen, Sandra, Susan, Christina, Faith, April and Kathy received roses as Natascha, Jeanie, Marina and Peggy’s journeys in search of love came to an end.

Jesse then approached Gerry and asked him if he was okay. While The Golden Bachelor wept over the goodbye, Jesse admitted that rose ceremonies are often the “worst part” of the experience.

“It’s bleak, it’s overwhelming to work hard to develop friendships…” Gerry explained, adding that “not being able to take the next step is disheartening.”
