Jennifer Lawrence played the heroine Katniss Everdeen in the first four Hunger Games of films based on Collins’ eponymous series of dystopian books for young adults. The films broke box office records from 2012 to 2015, grossing more than $3 billion worldwide.

In addition to Lawrence, stars Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland, Stanley Tucci, Julianne Moore and others appeared in the series.

He asked Diversity in June if she would ever reprise her role in a future sequel to the franchise, Lawrence, 33, said: “Oh my God – totally!”

A ballad about songbirds and snakes follows 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow (played by Sutherland, 88, in the original series and in Tom Blyth’s new film), who eventually becomes the tyrannical president of the dystopian nation of Panem, and the show’s main villain.

The cast also includes Rachel Zegler, Hunter Schafer, Peter Dinklage, Viola Davis, Jason Schwartzman and Josh Andrés Rivera.

Director Francis Lawrence recently said Empire magazine that the character of Lucy Gray Baird (Zegler, 22) is in many ways the “anti-Katniss.”

“Katniss was an introvert and a survivor. She was quite quiet and stoic, you could say [she was] asexual,” he said. “Lucy Gray is the opposite. Wear your sexuality on your sleeve, [and] she really is a performer.”

While at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022, Lawrence told reporters what advice she would give the cast of her predecessors: “You’re going to have a good time. Just have fun — don’t worry about anything.”
