FORGET the long flight to the Maldives, there’s a resort in Greece that has its own overwater bungalows – and a stay is a fraction of the price.
Greece remains a popular holiday choice among Britons, and the country is home to a host of glamorous resorts and hotels.

One of those places is the Stella Island Resort in Crete, Greece, which is one of the few hotels on the island that has the iconic overwater villas often seen at resorts in the Maldives.
Last year, TikTok user Evelyn, who goes by the social media platform as evelynstravelzone, posted a video about her trip to a Greek resort.
The caption above the snap read: “Maldives are irreplaceable, but if you’re looking for some cool overwater bungalows in Europe without having to spend a fortune on flights, check out Stella Island in Crete, Greece.”
The footage shows several wooden bungalows over the water, all overlooking the pool.
The video had 1.1 million views on the TikTok platform, and several users wrote about their holidays.
One person wrote: “We went there and only paid £1,500 for an all-inclusive water bungalow. It was absolutely amazing.”
Another person said: “We were there this year, the staff were amazing and we really enjoyed our time there.”
While a third wrote: “I got married there in September, and it’s well worth the money.”
Stella Island Resort is a five-star adult-only hotel located near the resort of Analipsi.
The resort’s overwater villas are similar to those in the Maldives, with the only difference being that the huts are over a large pool rather than over the sea.
Stella Island Resort has a range of cottages to choose from, including some with private pools, while others have pool views.
Overwater Bungalows and Swim Up Rooms feature a bungalow on a private pool deck and hammock with direct pool access.
There are also Grand Overwater Bungalows, which have overwater hammocks and private hot tubs.
Sun Online Travel found rooms from £226 per night, making them a fraction of the price in the Maldives.
Jet2 and Ryanair have direct flights from UK cities such as London, Birmingham and Newcastle, with prices starting from £35 for a one-way ticket.
There are many other places around Europe that have been compared to the Maldives in recent years.
Last summer, tourists called Ksamil in Albania the “European Maldives”.
Tiktoker user The Travel Mum (@thetravelmum) posted all about her holiday in a seaside village.
In the video, she explained how to get to Ksamil in Albania, which she called the “Maldives of Europe” and what exactly visitors can expect.
Her video has been viewed more than a million times on Tiktok, and she and her family have been seen enjoying sandy beaches with turquoise waters, as well as deep orange sunsets from a hotel balcony.
