Umbrella Academy cast reunited for the show’s fourth and final season premiere, and for at least some cast members, the feeling was incredibly bittersweet.
At the premiere of the fourth and final season of the Netflix series in Los Angeles, California on August 5, Elliot Page, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman and Aidan Gallagher reflected on their time together.
“It’s definitely bittersweet,” Raver-Lampman, 35, tells PEOPLE. “I think it’s been an amazing six-plus years for all of us, and we’ve really become a family in real life. I think the nice thing to walk away from this experience is that I have friends for life.”
Gallagher, 20, was 13 when he auditioned for the role of Number Five – and is well aware of how big a role the show has played in his life so far.

“It’s been a long time and it’s been a privilege to go through life through all of this,” he says, adding, “It’s been an absolute pleasure.”
Page, 37, admitted that he will miss playing Victor Hargreeves. Viktor has really come into his own in many ways and is much more confident, says the actor.

IN The Umbrella Academy In season four, the Hargreeves siblings split up after last season’s showdown at Hotel Oblivion, leading to a “complete reset” of their timeline, according to the synopsis.
“Deprived of their powers, everyone is left to fend for themselves and find a new normal – with incredibly varying degrees of success. However, the trappings of their eerie new world proved too difficult to ignore for long,” the synopsis continues. “Their father, Reginald (Colm Feore), alive and well, has emerged from the shadows into the public eye, overseeing a powerful and vicious business empire. A mysterious association known as The Keepers hold secret meetings believing that the reality they live in is a lie and that a great showdown is coming. As these strange new forces conspire around them, the Umbrella Academy must come together one last time—and risk upsetting the shaky peace they’ve all worked so hard to secure—to finally set things right.”
Umbrella Academy, who based on the comic book series of the same name by writer Gerard Way and illustrator Gabriel Bá, it premiered in 2019 and has earned seven Emmy nominations in the years since.

After Season 3 of the series ended, Castañeda, 34, told PEOPLE in June 2022 that he appreciated Diego and his siblings losing their powers.
“Honestly, I really like the fact that we don’t have the power because Umbrella Academy it was never really about the powers,” he says. “The power was just a little spice to the [the show], [this season] de-escalated and became much more about, ‘Let’s just look at these people that we really like to joke with each other.’ ”

At the series premiere on Aug. 5, Castañeda hinted to PEOPLE that the “epic” fourth season will feature “a lot of comedy” with sibling rivalry and heart-tugging moments. Raver-Lampman, for her part, teased viewers will get to see her character Alison as “we’ve never seen her before,” adding, “that’s the Allison she’s been trying to be since we met her.”
Since production wrapped last May, the tight-knit cast now has to work much harder to see each other.
“We’re having the best time. Really, really,” Raver-Lampman explains. “I’m going to miss the show bringing us together. Now we actually have to work on it, because we’re all done. We have people in London and Ireland and New York and LA and Seattle. I think it’s going to be a little more work, but it’s worth it because we are family.”
Umbrella Academy season 4 premieres August 8 on Netflix.
