Jason “Sundance” Head accidentally shot himself at his ranch in Texas on Friday, November 15th.
The country singer’s agent, Trey Newman, tells PEOPLE that Head was hunting alone in the woods when he was shot in the stomach around 4-4:30 p.m. local time.

After arriving at the hospital, the singer’s wife Misty shared the news via Head’s Facebook account, saying she finally “physically laid eyes on him and heard his sweet voice”.
“He is in a good mood considering the last few hours. The children are with him now. The prayers were answered as the bullet did no internal damage. Thank you all for your prayers,” she said before describing what happened.
According to Misty, Head was alone at the ranch when the incident occurred.
“It was not his hunting rifle and no one shot him. He was outside the vehicle and reached to grab his 22 when he grabbed it the 22 came out of its holster and hit the outside of the Jeep properly and went off. Sundance said it happened so fast and he could see the bullet eject,” she wrote.

Misty clarified that Head “didn’t” call 911, even though she thought he did at first.
The country singer forgot his phone, “so he went down the driveway to the main road to flag down a car for help,” according to a Facebook post. “10 cars later someone turned around to help and called 911. Here’s what he told me…he’s heavily medicated right now. He is so happy and grateful to be alive.”
Misty shared with fans that the bullet “entered above his belly button and lodged in his abdominal wall,” missing “all his vitals.”
“He won’t need surgery because they’re not taking the bullet out,” she continued. “I’m sure [his doctor] said why, but my head is in a fog right now. Being on the bigger side was good. The bullet is in his fatty tissue.”
Earlier in the evening, Misty said in a statement to PEOPLE, “We appreciate all the prayers and will update everyone soon when we have more information.”
