The Walking Dead’s Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira Binged Bridgerton to Prep for ‘Romantic’ Rick/Michonne Spinoff

Andrew Lincoln shares the steamy study material he used to prepare for The Living Dead: Those Who Live.

At a Television Critics Association panel for AMC on Tuesday, Lincoln, 50, opened up about the preparations he and Danai Gurira took to get the romance ready for “the most romantic Walking Dead show” to date.

“We watched a lot Bridgerton” the actor joked before adding: “This has been a long time coming, this story, and I love this character and this is a love story. This is actually the DNA of the original episode of a man in search of his family”

Explaining how the team wanted to make the story “a little more operatic”, Lincoln described the long-awaited series as “a beautiful thing”.

“And Danai, I have to admit she was beating the drum for a love story,” he added. “Everything we could get out of every scene, she said, ‘It’s time, that’s it.'”

The Living Dead: Those Who Live will follow the epic love story between married couple Rick Grimes (Lincoln) and Michonne (Guriro), who first met on 1 The walking dead. Both exited the series before it ended after 11 seasons in November 2022.

Rick was presumed dead when he left The walking dead in Season 9 after she blew up a bridge to prevent a walker invasion, but Michonne later learned that her husband had survived and set out to find him in Season 10.

The upcoming series will be the sixth spinoff to come from The walking deadwhich itself is an adaptation of the comic series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore and Charlie Adlard.

When Gurira was asked what she could “teas” about her character’s development, the 45-year-old actress kept her cards close to her chest, though she did give viewers some insight into what to expect.

“I mean, you know, she definitely goes through quite a journey in this series,” she said of Michonne. “There’s a lot of things that happen that she doesn’t expect. There’s ways that she has to turn around and adapt that she doesn’t expect. There’s, you know, the journey to find your man… it’s not easy at first, it comes in ways that you never she couldn’t imagine.”

“She’s been through a lot and it’s made her very closed,” Gurira continued. “So it opened up again and then, you know, we’ll see what happens.”
