After playing for FC Copenhagen’s youth team at various levels, Delaney made his professional debut in an unofficial friendly in August 2008. Thomas Delaney played for his national team both as a youth and as an adult. He did that in many tournaments. In October 2008, he played his first match for the Denmark U18 national team and played 3 more matches. He also played 11 matches for the Denmark U19 national team.

On 11 August 2010, Delaney played his first match for Denmark under-21 team against Italy under-21 team.
