Thunderbolts*: Everything We Know About the Star-Studded Marvel Movie

Step away from the Avengers, a new super team is coming together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel’s lightning bolts* was first announced during San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022. In the comics, the Thunderbolts are a group of mostly reformed villains, who end up taking on missions for the government (similar to DC Comics’ Suicide Squad).

Marvel first teased the formation of the Thunderbolts in the 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier with the introduction of Valentina Allegre de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), who begins recruiting members for the group.

During the D23 Expo in September 2022, the official cast list was revealed, including Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbor as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as the Ghost and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

While Louis-Dreyfus has appeared in exit scenes and cameos in several Marvel movies and series, it seems that Veep The alum wanted to be more involved in the MCU universe. “I actually threw it out,” Louis-Dreyfus said Diversity in an interview published on January 17, 2023. “I told them I really, really want to fight. We’ll see if that happens. I haven’t seen the script yet.”

Additionally, the cast includes Top Gun: Maverick star Lewis Pullman as Sentry. Geraldine Viswanathan in an undisclosed role and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross from Captain America: Brave New Worldaccording to the deadline.

What is the title lightning bolts*?

The official title of the upcoming film will be lightning bolts*which has given rise to many theories as to what the star could mean. When asked about the title at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, Kevin Feige teased that all will be revealed when the film is released.

Is there a trailer for lightning bolts*?

Marvel released the first official trailer for lightning bolts* in September 2024.

The three-minute teaser follows Black Widow as she and her fellow supervillains are “sent” into the same strange building and trapped behind massive cement doors.

“Everyone here has been doing bad things – shadow operations, robbing government labs, contract killings. Someone wants us out,” she tells the group.

The supervillains eventually meet Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who plans to use the group’s abilities for government missions.

After the departure of Eric Pearson, Beef creator Lee Sung Jin has been selected as the screenwriter for the new film, per Deadline.

When it is lightning bolts* movie?

Filming on the project began in early 2024 in Atlanta, and Pugh shared a rare behind-the-scenes look at the shoot in March. Dressed in a Yelena Belova costume, the actress took fans around the set, where the film’s director playfully said, “I don’t think you’re allowed to do that at all.” Additionally, filming has reportedly taken place in Utah and New York before wrapping up in June 2024.

During San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that the Thunderbolts would also appear in the Avengers: Judgment Day and Avengers: Secret Wars. The upcoming film is tipped to have a star-studded cast, including the actors behind it Fantastic four — Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach — as well as Robert Downey Jr. who will play Doctor Doom.
