Tia Mowry Says 'Distance' from Sister Tamera Is Due to Individual Family Obligations: 'A Part of Life…No Hard Feelings' (Exclusive)

Tia Mowry pulls back the curtain on her life and her relationships.

The Sister, sister and A family gathering star’s upcoming WeTV reality series, Tia Mowry: My next actexplores her world now as a single mother navigating life after her divorce from actor Cory Hardrict.

“For me, it was never about fame. It was about inspiration, encouragement and a real goal,” she told PEOPLE exclusively. “I decided to do this show mainly because when I was going through this life transition, I felt very alone. I didn’t see any representation when it came to women being vulnerable and open about this process and this journey. And I didn’t wanted anyone to feel alone and the way I felt.”

A recent trailer for the series made headlines for showing Mowry in a particularly vulnerable moment, saying she wishes she and her identical twin sister Tamera were “still close” so she could lend a hand in times of need.

Recalling how she felt while shooting that scene in the series, “I just want a hug, you know what I mean?” she says of the moment. “That’s what I mean.”

But in response to fan speculation about what caused the “distance” she mentioned between her and her sister, Mowry offers some context on their current situation.

“You start out as siblings in a household and family, and as we grow up and start families of our own, it’s very normal for us all to take on new roles and responsibilities when it comes to our lives,” she says. “My sister has her own family… I think that’s normal. It’s very natural that we make our own lives.”

Most importantly, there is still a lot of love out there.

“There is so much love there,” she says. “We have this beautiful connection that will never end. My sister and I have always been women of inspiration, and we will continue to be. And why should that change now?”

She continues, “I think we showed who we are as people and our integrity.” As for the distance between them now, “it’s just part of life,” she adds. “People have started to start their own families. That’s right and that’s okay. There’s no anger.”
