Tia Mowry Says She’s ‘Embraced Moments of Solitude’ in 2023: ‘I’ve Never Been Alone. Until Now’

Tia Mowry reflects on the healing power of spending time alone.

In a lengthy Instagram post on Friday, the 45-year-old actress shared how she’s learned to embrace solitude this year as an “opportunity to recharge.”

“I have a confession to make: I’ve never been alone. Until now,” she began her post. “For the longest time, I found myself in the company of others, because work and family obligations kept me constantly surrounded by people, not to mention, I have a twin. Time when I was alone was a rare occurrence growing up.”

Mowry went on to explain that she’s “embraced solitude” over the past year — and revealed something surprising.

“I realized that being alone is not a punishment, but an opportunity to recharge. Through conscious effort, I transformed those moments into a key aspect of maintaining my well-being,” she wrote. “This change allowed me to recognize the value of solitude in refreshing my mind and spirit.”

Mowry said this quiet time to “rejuvenate” allows her to “be fully present” when she’s with her family and friends.

In order to prove that she wholeheartedly embraces her “self-time”, Sister, sister alumina’s post included a video showing what she does when she’s home alone. In the clip, Mowry holds a glass of red wine and dances while singing an Alicia Keys song, using the wine bottle as a microphone.

Her fans seemed to appreciate her empowering post — and the light-hearted behind-the-scenes video. “Visually how you hang out with yourself, you feel everything 🥰 how good you are having a good time! You become 🙌🏽❤️🙌🏽,” one person wrote.

“That’s the best kind of self love!! Loving your own company ❤️🥰,” another fan commented.

Back in October, Mowry shared in a candid Instagram post that she was on a journey of self-discovery following her 2022 split from Cory Hardrict after 14 years of marriage.

“Who am I when I’m not Tia’s mom, Tia’s actress or Tia’s sister?” Mowry – who shares son Cree, 12, and daughter Cairo, 5, with Hardrict – wrote at the time. “Over the past year I have seriously embarked on a journey to discover more about myself and determine what I really want in life.”

“While I undoubtedly appreciate the different roles I play in my life, it became imperative for me to delve deeper into understanding who Tia is, as an individual, and what brings happiness to her life,” she continued.

In her post, Mowry also revealed that she decided to retire to spend time connecting with herself.

“During my time there, I dedicated a significant portion of the journal and focused on expressing the emotions and thoughts that I had navigated throughout the year,” she explained.

Mowry said the retreat helped her learn the importance of taking time for herself. “The more I prioritize self-care and ensure my own well-being, the more effectively I can support and help others,” she added. “Once my cup is full, I can better fill those in my community!”
