SAG award-winning actress Dagmara Domińczyk met husband Patrick Wilson when they were both acting students, years before either of them got their big break in Hollywood.

Domińczyk made her acting debut in 2000 in Edward Norton’s romantic comedy Keeping the faithand later landed her first recurring TV role a year later in the crime drama, The third watch.

Wilson got his start on the stage, making his Broadway debut in The Full Monty 2000, which earned him a Tony nomination for his performance as Jerry Lukowski. He also made a splash in 2003 on HBO Angels in Americaearning praise from critics.

The Hollywood power couple married in 2005 and have since had two children together, Kalin Patrick and Kassian McCarrell. They also share three dogs.

In 2006, Domińczyk and Wilson began working together on a film Running with scissors, an adaptation of Augusten Burrogh’s memoir.

Despite both being actors, the couple won’t coddle each other about what’s going on in their respective projects. Domińczyk — who played Karolina Novotney, head of PR at the fictional company Waystar Royco, on HBO Succession — told vanity fair that she never informed Wilson of how the show ended, instead letting him watch it while it aired.

“My husband never wants to know,” she said.

She emigrated from Poland

Domińczyk was born on July 17, 1986 in Kielce, Poland to parents Aleksandra and Mirosław Domińczyk. She is the oldest of three girls.

In 1983, Domińczyk, her sister Marika and their parents immigrated from Poland to the United States, settling in New York. Her parents then had another daughter, Veronika.

Her family came to the US as asylum seekers because of her father’s involvement with Amnesty International and the Solidarity movement.

Domińczyk’s father unfortunately died while she was filming for Succession series finale, in which Logan Roy, the patriarch of the Roy family, dies. She reflected on her experience in an interview for rolling stone, comparing his father to Logan Roy.

“Our last day, two days before I showed up on set, my own father – who I would say is a gentler, kinder Logan Roy, in the fact that he has been the greatest presence and strength in my entire life for me and my sisters , this truly unique human being — we died suddenly at the age of 69. And we found out through a phone call from a person we’ve never met. He was in Poland at the time,” she said.

She also compared her father to Brian Cox, the actor who plays Logan Roy, saying: “My dad was very gentle. Brian is very gentle.”

Domińczyk is open about her Polish origins and is proud of her roots.

“I was raised in a Polish home, I spent all my summers in Poland, but I used it to my advantage. In Poland, I felt different – in a good way. In the US, I decided to own my ‘Polishness’. I never hid it and I never felt embarrassed about it,” she said Diversity in 2022

She is not the only actress in her family

Domińczyk is the eldest of three sisters, all of whom are acting.

Her younger sister, Marika Domińczyk, is an actress who starred in series like Grey’s Anatomy, Whiskey Cavalier, and recently, HBO Barry.

Marika, like her older sister, is also married to a fellow actor: Scott Foley.

The youngest of the Domińczyk sisters, Veronika, also tried her hand at acting, appearing in series such as Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Nurse Jackie and It could have been worse.

Despite living in different states and countries, the Domińczyk sisters share a close bond.

“Leaving my #sisters is always hard…” Marika wrote in a 2020 Instagram post, tagging both of her sisters during a visit where the three gathered for the holidays.

She is a writer

Acting is not Domińczyk’s only form of creative expression. She is also a writer who maintains a personal blog on Tumblr and is a published author.

Her debut novel in 2013. Lullaby of Polish girls, published by Spiegel & Grau, an imprint of Penguin Random House. The novel follows the lives of three friends during their youth in Poland to their adulthood in different places, physically and metaphorically.

It was inspired by Domińczyk’s own upbringing, and one of the main characters has a similar story of moving to New York from Poland because of their parents’ connection with the Solidarity movement.

In an interview with Female First, Domińczyk talked about her love of writing and reading and how it has influenced her life.

“Writing was my first love, long before theater and movies came into play,” she said. “Coming to a foreign country as a child, one becomes aware of the importance of language and communication early on. Books were my savior growing up.”

Domińczyk also commented on her inspiration behind the novel, saying, “I spent my summers in Poland from the age of 12 until I was about 22. Those summer holidays had a great impact on me. I saw another world that I was a part of, met new friends, kept the old ones.”

Domińczyk has also narrated a number of audio books, including Every note played per The New York Times bestselling author Lisa Genova.

She studied acting for years

A classically trained actor, Domińczyk attended the High School of the Performing Arts in New York before studying drama at Carnegie Mellon.

She went to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School in Manhattan, a school that boasts other notable alumni, including Sarah Paulson, Timotheé Chalamet and Jennifer Aniston.

She also met her husband at Carnegie Mellon.

Although Domińczyk graduated in 1998 and Wilson a few years earlier, in 1995, they still had time to meet at the prestigious art school while they were both students.

They got married in 2005

Domińczyk and Wilson lost touch after school, but reconnected in 2004 and felt an instant spark, which led to them tying the knot just a year later on June 18, 2005.

On their 13th anniversary, Domińczyk shared a photo of herself on the wedding daysquatted and smoked a cigarette.

“Just a classy bride on her wedding day. Hey @patrickwilson73 – I quit smoking, but you never will. That is a FACT, as our youngest son would say. KOCHAM CIĘ. Happy Anniversary. ❤️”, she wrote.

A year later, Wilson shared a throwback photo herself and Domińczyk casually dressed, standing with his arm around her.

“14 or more years ago. Before the selfie. Before the children. Just you and me and the old ship. I’ll sail anywhere with you. My God, how I love you. Happy anniversary @Dagword ❤️,” he wrote.

They share two children

Domińczyk and Wilson are the parents of two sons: Kalin and Kassian.

Their first son, Kalin Patrick Wilson, was born on June 23, 2006. The couple’s second son, Kassian McCarrell Wilson, was born on August 9, 2010.

Their children have followed in their acting footsteps, with their youngest, Kassian, starring in the Fox drama series Cop Prodigal son.

In an interview with Steve Adubat, Domińczyk and Wilson said they directed their children’s school plays at their elementary school for four years.

“We encouraged that — if they want to do any art: acting, theater, dance,” Domińczyk said, adding, “I feel like kids today are so much on their phones that … art is the last remaining way to connect with people.”

They have three dogs together

Domińczyk and Wilson are not only parents to their children, but also parents to pets. The couple share three dogs: Mabel, Louise and Eddie Van Wilson.

A true animal lover, Wilson never misses an opportunity to post her dogs on social media for holidays like “Love Your Pet Day” and “International Dogs Day.” Domińczyk shows her love for their dogs in other ways, like knitting sweaters to wear.

While they were pets for a while, the parents of just two puppies, in 2020 they added a third dog to the mix.

“Merry Christmas from all of us Wilsons… including this new guy, Mr. Eddie Van Wilson. My kids named him…but I didn’t mind,” Wilson wrote on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself and Domińczyk holding the golden, curly-furred pup, adding the hashtags “#becausetwodogsarentenough” and “#quarantinepuppy. ”

“Good. We did it. We got ourselves a quarantine puppy. Officially outnumbered by canines, just in time for Christmas,” Domińczyk wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter)they share the same photo.

The third pup’s name was inspired by Wilson’s love for the late musician Eddie Van Halen, which he passed on to his sons. In 2012, Wilson opened up to PEOPLE about his love for Van Halen, admitting that he was in a family cover band with his brothers, called The Wilson Van.
