Steve Fanning and Hannah Joy Arrington raised their daughters in Georgia before moving to Los Angeles for the booming careers of young actors. Steve and Hannah, both former professional athletes, never pressured their daughters to play sports, but instead encouraged their passion for performing.

“I feel really lucky and I think it has a lot to do with my family — our parents are so far away from this business, and so happy to just be our parents,” Dakota told NJ.com in 2010.

Steven and Hannah were always supportive of their daughter’s early interest in acting.

“They quickly realized that both my sister and I were different from what they expected their children to be,” Dakota recalled to NJ.com. “And they supported it. Really, they sacrificed so much for us, they actually gave up the life they had planned.”
