TikTok Star Chris Olsen Was Prescribed Beta Blockers for Nerves About Opening for Meghan Trainor (Exclusive)

TikTok star Chris Olsen is nervously excited to open his BFF Meghan Trainor’s tour!

In an interview with PEOPLE, the internet personality tells PEOPLE that given his past experiences with stage fright, he sought medical attention to calm his nerves before performing as the opening act for the “Made You Look” singer in September.

“The last time I performed in musical theater school, I lost feeling in my hands because I got really nervous,” says Olsen, who graduated in 2021 from the prestigious Boston Conservatory at Berklee. “It was something that would happen often. ”

While on tour with Trainor, he’ll be playing much bigger venues — including New York’s Madison Square Garden, which Olsen says will be “a big moment for me.” As a result, he wanted medical intervention to control his nervousness before going on stage.

“When it was announced, they put me on beta blockers so I couldn’t have a heart attack while I was up there,” he says. “I’m very nervous.”

“I know I’m probably going to pee before I go upstairs, but then I’m going to use it as part of the act,” jokes Olsen.

Olsen and Trainor first became friends in 2022 after Olsen appeared on the singer’s podcast — and their friendship has continued ever since, often documented in TikToks made together. He’s even become a regular babysitter for Trainor’s two children while their mom is away.

When the “Dear Future Husband” singer first asked Olsen to join her on tour, he didn’t think much of the offer, she tells PEOPLE.

“Meghan has a lot of ideas and she likes to just ask me to make things and also throw out ideas that I know are definitely not going to happen,” says Olsen. “So when she said, ‘You should open for me on tour,’ I said, ‘OK. Completely. Whatever you want, queen.’ ”

But when Trainor’s manager repeated the offer not long after, he realized she was serious. However, he still wasn’t sure what he would perform while on stage in front of Trainor — even after he was announced as the opener.

As tour rehearsals begin next week, Olsen says he has a few more ideas about what his act will involve — what he says will be telling “the story of my life” through a combination of comedy and musical theater.

“Although opening for a pop star was never something I trained for or thought I’d do, I realized this was the perfect way and vehicle to showcase some of the things I know how to do, while also making it fun, with a bit of comedy, but and interacting with the audience,” says Olsen. “I’m opening, but it’s not really about me. It’s about getting everyone excited for Meghan.”

He jokingly adds: “And maybe surprise her on stage during her set. So who knows?”

The Timeless Tour starts on September 1st. Olsen is scheduled to join as an opening act on September 4.
