Tim Allen is ready for Toy story 5and believes you will be too!
In an interview with collider to discuss our new sitcom Changing gearsthe actor, 71, has spoken about getting back into the booth to voice Buzz Lightyear for the upcoming franchise installment set for summer 2026.
“I just did the first five-hour session for Buzz, probably a week ago,” Allen said in an interview published Friday, Dec. 27. “It’s really, really weird to go back to it. I can’t tell you anything.”

Toy story saw a jolly cowboy figure named Woody (Tom Hanks) rock his world when his owner Andy (John Morris) received a cool, brand new action figure named Buzz Lightyear.
Allen reprized the role in Toy story 2 (1999), Toy story 3 (2010) and Toy story 4 (2019), as well as numerous specials and short films. Chris Evans took over the voice of Buzz in the 2022 edition Light yearwhich was not as commercially or critically successful as the mainstream films.
“It’s a very, very clever story,” Allen said Toy story 5.
“Do you want to make five of those? I don’t believe it’s about money. I’m sure they want to succeed, but that’s not why they did it.”

The Santa Claus the actor continued to praise the text and story.
“If they hadn’t come up with a brilliant script, they wouldn’t have done it and they wouldn’t have invited me and Tom. [Hanks],” he said, adding, “It’s really smart.”
Allen admitted that “it was really hard to get” in the beginning, as the fourth film five years ago, but “then I was doing Buzz for maybe two hours later.”

“I’m so blessed to be Buzz Lightyear, to be honest. It will be fun,” the Home improvement continue alum. “I think our year is up. I made it to the third act. We’re going to do a third act. And then we’ll come back and clean up. And then I’ll do it five more times. That’s a really good story, guys. It’s really good.”
He also talked about how the film turned him and Hanks, 68, from stars to friends.
“WITH Toy story 4when I said, ‘To infinity’ and Tom said, ‘and beyond’, it was so emotional for both of us. We are very close friends and I liked that – Allen admitted.

During Disney’s D23 Expo in August 2024, director Andrew Stanton shared details about what fans can look forward to in the film.
“IN Toy story 5 toy business becomes exponentially more difficult when our toy crew collides with what kids are obsessed with today: electronics,” he said at the time.

Concept art revealed at D23 also showed a group of toys — like Jessie, the yodeling cowgirl (voiced by different actresses) and Rex (Wallace Shawn) — looking sad because their owner seemed more interested in the tablet, hinting at their emotional, but witty fights.
Toy story 5 it is scheduled for release on June 19, 2026. All four Toy story movies are available to stream on Disney+.
