Timothée Chalamet Changes the World Through Candy in Thrilling New Wonka Trailer

Timothée Chalamet brings joy to Willy Wonka in the new trailer for Wonka.

The actor, 27, stars in an upcoming film he is producing Paddington directed by Paul King and written by Simon Rich. Wonka was inspired by Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

New footage from the origin story shows Hugh Grant’s Oompa-Loompa character singing and working with Chalamet’s Wonka.

Chalamet will show off his singing and dancing skills in the new film, which also stars Calah Lane, Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Jim Carter, Matt Lucas and Sally Hawkins.

The movie ‘Wonka’: Everything you need to know

Speaking to PEOPLE in July, director King, 45, praised Chalamet’s talents.

“I think what’s so remarkable about his performance is not only that he’s funny and mischievous and quite mysterious as well — just like the Willy Wonka that people will know — but also, he brings so much heart to the role and he’s brilliant actor,” He said.

“He is incredibly emotionally intelligent and can bring a lot of emotional truth to the role,” added the director.

King also said that Chalamet will surprise some viewers with his singing and dancing abilities.

“It’s really a tour de force for him there. He’s been practicing for months before we go into some kind of skill development, which has been a joy to watch,” King said.

‘Wonka’ first look! Watch ‘Naughty’ Timothée Chalamet, Hugh Grant’s Orange in New Origin Story (Exclusive)

Wonka is a prequel to the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory a film released in 1971 starring Gene Wilder. Johnny Depp also played the character in Tim Burton’s 2005 film adaptation.

According to the film’s logline, “Wonka tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.”

Wonka it’s in theaters on December 15.
