Timothée Chalamet Would 'Consider' Making a Superhero Movie Even After Leonardo DiCaprio Advised Him Otherwise

Can Timothée Chalamet take on the role of a superhero, even after Leonardo DiCaprio famously advised him against it?

While Chalamet, 28, and his Dina: The second part talked to director Denis Villeneuve The New York Times about the much-anticipated 2021 sequel to their sci-fi epic, the actor questioned whether he’s been given the chance to play superheroes on the big screen.

“Well, Leonardo DiCaprio told me ‘No superhero movies, no hard drugs,’ which I thought was very good,” Chalamet said. – I follow them both! he added, after filmmaker Villeneuve, 56, jokingly asked: “Which one?”

“But the movie that made me want to act is a superhero movie, dark Knight“, Chalamet pointed out. “If the script was great, if the director was great, I would have to consider it.”

Chalamet famously revealed that “one of my heroes” gave him advice “no superheroes and no hard drugs” in a 2021 interview. Time. At the time, he didn’t specify who gave him that advice, joking: “I can’t say who or I’d be busted.”

In an interview with S. 2022 British Voguehowever, Chalamet confirmed that DiCaprio gave him that advice when they first met in 2018. Vogue he described DiCaprio’s mantra as a phrase that at the time grew into Chalamet’s own “career rule”.

Chalamet has largely stayed away from comic books and superhero movies in his film career, although he has taken on familiar roles and beloved characters such as Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka in last year’s film Wonka and DunePaul Atreides, who gets some supernatural powers in the sci-fi epics he makes with Villeneuve.

“I’m playing a down-to-earth character who — just by looking at him — is going through something that I can relate to,” Chalamet said. The New York Timesto the question of Dunethe famous quote “fear is the killer of the mind”.

New Dune the film, which covers the back half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel of the same name, picks up Chalamet’s character Paul almost immediately after the events of 2021. Dune. The film will “explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides (Chalamet) as he unites with Chani (Zendaya) and the Fremen as he seeks revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family,” reads the official synopsis.

“Faced with a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he strives to prevent a terrible future that only he can foresee,” the synopsis adds.

Dina: The second part is in theaters on Friday.
