Tina Knowles and Richard Lawson Reach Divorce Settlement Agreement Nearly 13 Months After Filing

Tina Knowles and Richard Lawson have reached a divorce settlement, nearly 13 months after she filed in July 2023.

Knowles, 70, the mother of superstars Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, filed for divorce from the actor, 77, on July 26, 2023, in the Superior Court of the State of California for Los Angeles County, after eight years of marriage.

The former couple, who exchanged vows on a yacht in Newport Beach, Calif., on April 12, 2015, cited “irreconcilable differences” in the settlement reached by PEOPLE. The document adds that “the marriage is irretrievably broken [made] it is impossible for the parties to live together as husband and wife.”

While both parties waived their right to spousal support, Knowles agreed to give Lawson a lump sum payment of $300,000, which is “in full and complete satisfaction of all interests the defendant acquired during the marriage in the parties’ community property, as well as his liability for all debts community.”

Lawson also received a 2021 Cadillac Escalade, the right to all earnings earned since the date of their separation, assets acquired by Richard Lawson Studios Inc., his SAG retirement plan, royalties, creative works made during their union and personal effects, including clothing and jewelry.

Knowles was awarded the right to retain the property in Los Angeles and a separate property in Texas, as well as “all furniture, fixtures, appliances, art and personal effects” in both locations.

Like Lawson, she also receives all earnings earned since the date of their separation and creative works created during their time together.

In addition, the fashion designer retains a 2018 Tesla, a 2020 Bentley, a Matriarch Book “deal” with Penguin Random House and a 1 percent stake in Kirby Beauty Management LLC.

As part of the settlement, the former couple also agreed to a “non-disparagement agreement,” in which they “acknowledge their intent to resolve all issues in their divorce amicably” by agreeing to mutually agree on all statements regarding their divorce and not speak ill of their children, grandchildren and their spouses.
