Tina Knowles Announces Death of Beyoncé’s Uncle Butch at Age 77: ‘I Will Miss Him So Much’

The Knowles family is grieving the loss of a beloved family member.

Late Sunday, Beyoncé’s mom Tina Knowles, 70, shared an Instagram post announcing that her brother Rowland Martin Buyince, known as Butch, had passed away at the age of 77 over the weekend.

“My beautiful big brother Butch went to be with God this weekend. I will miss him dearly! He was a career soldier,” she wrote alongside a black and white military photo of her late sibling.

“He loved riding motorcycles, was a black belt in karate and had the most beautiful green eyes and good looks. He was a great storyteller,” Tina continued.

“He had an amazing wife Jeanette and a devoted daughter Dana, two beautiful grandchildren Yvette and Roland. He was much loved. Sail on Butch❤️❤️Rowland Martin (Butch) Buyince’ June 1946 – February 2024 RIP,” she concluded.

In July 2022, Beyoncé dedicated her seventh studio album renaissance to another late beloved family member, her “Uncle Johnny.” Beyoncé’s mom Tina previously said Johnny is “more like a brother to me,” even though he’s her sister’s son.

“A big thank you to my uncle Johnny,” Beyoncé wrote on her website at the time. “He was my godfather and the first person to introduce me to a lot of music and culture that serves as inspiration for this album.”

“Thank you to all the pioneers who created culture, to all the fallen angels whose contributions have gone unrecognized for too long. This is a celebration for you,” Beyoncé, who was 17 when Johnny died of HIV-related complications, added.
