Tina Knowles doesn’t play around when it comes to her family.
The 70-year-old mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles is active on Instagram and is not afraid to speak out in defense of her loved ones. This was proven when she was quick to call out critics of Beyoncé’s Christmas performance at the NFL halftime of the Houston Texans-Baltimore Ravens game.
“I’m the protector of my kids and I just feel like it’s my job,” Tina explained on the Tuesday, Dec. 31, episode of Checking with Vogue podcast.
“And, you know, my kids always say, ‘Mom, just ignore it.’ But it gets to the point where I just say, ‘I’m sorry. This is enough. That’s enough.’ you know Because imagine you are a mother and someone is lying to your child. It’s hard to watch,” she added.

Tina admitted that liking negative posts about her family is also not out of place for her.
“That’s so funny because you know how many times I’ve liked something negative about my own kids?” Tina continued The Run-Through. “Because if I’m busy and I’m going through a thing, I’m like, ‘Oh, there’s Beyoncé with so-and-so.’ I like that. And then the fans come back and say, ‘Miss Tina, please delete that because you’re liking some negative post.’ ”
The situation arose earlier this month when fans noticed that Tina’s account was liking posts surrounding allegations that her son-in-law Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs sexually assaulted an unnamed 13-year-old girl — allegations that Jay-Z Z denied.
At the time, Tina set the record straight on her account, posting on December 9, “I’ve been hacked! As you all know, I don’t play about my family. So if you see something out of character for me, just know that it’s not me!”

While she didn’t directly address the allegations against Jay on the podcast, Tina did share one piece of advice Beyoncé’s husband gave her about social media.
Noting that most of her Instagram comments and captions are converted to text, Tina admitted that her phone often misspells words due to her Southern accent.

“I know he doesn’t understand what I’m saying, and there are some crazy things,” she explained. “And my son-in-law, Jay, will say, ‘Look, if you’re going to read somebody, at least spell your words right. Don’t misspell your words, mom. You can’t do that. Take your time and go and check your stuff!’ ”
Tina’s answer?
“I don’t have time for that,” she joked.

Jay-Z isn’t the only family member giving Tina advice. Blue Ivy Carter, the 12-year-old daughter of the “Holy Grail” rapper and Beyoncé also gives Grandma notes, which she promptly ignores.
“From time to time I’ll get a call from Blue and she’ll say, ‘Grandma, that’s really awful what you did. That’s really wacky. You should delete that,’ said Tina about her oldest granddaughter. “I’m like, ‘Girl, I’m on to the next thing.’ And all the comments are like, ‘There you go again, Miss Tina.’ ”
