Suri Cruise, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, made her singing debut in the latter’s new film Alone Together. Suri apparently performed a cover of Blue Moon, which is heard throughout the film’s opening credits. Alone Together is a romantic drama written and directed by Holmes, who also stars with Jim Sturgess in the film. In response to her daughter’s music debut, Holmes told Yahoo! Fun that Suri is extremely talented and loves to lead brilliant people:
“I’m always looking for the best talent.” So I asked around. She is really gifted. She said she would do it, so she did, and I let her do her thing. Basically, that’s how I direct. ‘This is what I believe we all want – go and do your thing,’ it says.
Holmes also informed the paper that her daughter’s on-screen musical performance is not her only one, as she also offered her voice to sing for the upcoming film Rare Objects, which was filmed last year:
“She sang in the movie ‘Rare Objects,’ which we finished last fall.” Besides, she’s a 16-year-old girl in high school.”

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise married in 2006 and had a daughter, Suri, the following year. The couple divorced in 2012, and Holmes was awarded custody of their child. According to reports, despite the visitation rights during the divorce, Cruise does not see his daughter very often.

Suri, daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, was born on April 18, 2006, the same year the couple got married. Before her birth, the Mission: Impossible actor informed Barbara Walters that he bought an ultrasound machine for the house so he could see his daughter every day. The American Institute for Ultrasound in Medicine issued a statement opposing the idea at the time, since purchasing an over-the-counter ultrasound machine at home was illegal in the early 2000s. The hospital apparently received the equipment after it was delivered to Suri.
After Sura’s birth, Cruise told 20/20’s Deborah Roberts that his daughter’s birth was “spiritual”:
“It was everything we hoped it would be… It was spiritual in nature. It was quite effective. It was beyond words. What words are available to you? It’s something I’m constantly analyzing and experiencing.”
When Holmes and Cruise divorced in 2012, the former was awarded custody of their child. That year, the Jack Reacher actor was also photographed with his daughter at Disneyland, their last public appearance together. In 2013, Tom Cruise filed a $50 million lawsuit against Bauer Media after its posts allegedly suggested he had abandoned his daughter. The actor was even more outraged when asked if Holmes sought the divorce “in part to protect Suri from Scientology,” a controversial religious practice. He stated:
“There is no need to protect my daughter from my religion.”
When asked by his lawyers if Holmes left Cruise because of his involvement in Scientology, he reportedly said:
“Did she really say that?” Yes, that was one of the claims.”
According to TMZ, Cruise allegedly reached out to Holmes and Suri for not following his faith at the time. If true, his daughter is a “suppressor,” a phrase commonly used to describe people who leave the Church of Scientology and “disassociate themselves” from their close family members who continue to practice Scientology.
When Cruise and Holmes divorced, the former got the right to see his daughter 10 days a month. The court also ordered him to pay Sura’s educational and medical expenses, as well as $400,000 in child support each year until she turns 18. According to many reports, the star became estranged from his daughter after that.
