Tom Hollander Chokes Up While Talking About Baby Boy: ‘Suddenly He’s Here’

Tom Hollander quietly welcomed a baby boy last summer — and now he’s talking about becoming a father for the first time later in life.

White lotus the actor admitted emotionally during an interview on LIVE with Kelly and Mark that he regretted not having children before his sons were born.

Hollander described fatherhood as a “wonderful thing” and told hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos that the idea of ​​parenthood hadn’t crossed his mind until recent years.

“I kind of spent a lot of years not thinking that I was going to be a dad or that I didn’t want to be a dad at all,” he said. “Laterally, I started to regret it, and all of a sudden it was… all of a sudden he’s here, so it’s wonderful.”

Hollander, who welcomed his child with interior designer Fran Hickman, added that his parents are delighted with the new addition to the family.

“They gave up on me a long time ago,” he joked. “They are in their late 80s.”

Hollander stars in an upcoming FX and Hulu series Feud: Capote vs. Swans. He portrays the writer Truman Capote, who writes an exposé about his powerful and privileged friends.

Ahead of the series’ Jan. 31 debut, Hollander attended the red carpet premiere of the Ryan Murphy-produced limited series at the Museum of Modern Art in New York on Tuesday, along with actresses Calista Flockhart, Chloë Sevigny, Diane Lane, Molly Ringwald, Naomi Watts and Demi Moore.

When asked how Capote would feel about the public’s obsession with celebrities and their families online, Hollander told PEOPLE on the red carpet on Jan. 23 that Capote, being the rebel he is, would be “pretty snarky” about it all.

“I’m sure he would be contemptuous in some ways,” Hollander said. “I’m sure he’d be pretty grumpy about it. But he was a rebel, wasn’t he?… He might have said, ‘Well, I don’t want to be a part of it.’ I will be alone instead. I don’t know, but I’m sure he would have a strong reaction to that.”

Meanwhile, Sevigny’s 49-year-old colleague spoke about parenting a 3-year-old boy whom she and her husband Siniša Mačković had in May 2020.

“The more his brain works, the more his vocabulary grows, the more his imagination grows and his love and empathy for others,” Sevigny told PEOPLE. “It’s like every day is a joy. A pain in the… though.”
