The million pound question was answered by Charlie, who remembered the answer from his college days.

NHS finance manager Charlie had been sweating during the previous rounds, but when the final question flashed he was determined to know it.

The question read: “2024 is how many years since Blur beat Oasis to the UK No.1 spot with ‘Country House’.”

Dec joked that it was “time for a squeaky doom”, and Charlie replied: “The 29th. I know. It’s the 29th.”

Ant joked, “Charlie, how are you so calm? I’m hyperventilating here.”

As they were revealed to be millionaires, Helen said: “This is more than anything, it’s been amazing from start to finish.”

However, viewers were shocked by the question and claimed it was “too easy”.

One said: “It’s been 29 years. 1995. Easy. The million pound question. Fuck me, this is a fix.”

Another said: “Jesus, what an easy question to win a million.”

Other viewers were stunned by Helen and Charlie’s reaction to their amazing display, with one saying: “Why are Ant & Dec more excited than people who just won a million pounds!?”

Another reacted: “this couple already has 1 million based on their reaction, hell they’re going to be in pieces”

The pair increased their jackpot by getting the answers right, increasing their prize money by £50,000 each time.

They told Ant and Dec that they would use the winnings for: “Planning the future, arranging the children and sending them to university.”

The husband and wife first met on a blind date after Charlie’s mother suggested they meet.

Before winning, the couple said they wanted to spend the money on returning to Hawaii, where they honeymooned, with their children.

NHS communications manager Helen said the children wanted a villa in Mexico with a chef and to build a computer.

During the game, Ant asked Charlie why he was “so calm” when he was “hyperventilating” when he saw the total prize money.

When the pair won the huge sum, Ant and Dec bounced around the stage as Charlie and Helen hugged each other.

Helen called the moment “surreal”.

“Honestly, it’s like a dream,” she said.

The couple then lost their lives when they were asked about the weight of Marvel character Captain America’s shield.

Unsure of the answer about NASA’s Perseverance Rover on Mars, the couple cashed in £1 million.

“It was amazing from start to finish, I think it’s going to take a while to get used to,” said Helen.

Previously, the TV game show Katherine and Will won £500,000 in the first series.
