Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’ Performance at 2024 Grammys Made Us Cry — and Search for Her Shirt (We Found It!)

Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs’ emotional duet of “Fast Car” at the 2024 Grammy Awards brought many viewers to tears on Sunday night.

It also had many viewers Googling, “Where did Tracy get that chic black button with the perfect touch of shine and how does it look the same as when I played her CD over and over again in 1988?”

We know the answer to the first question (we are still working on the second). The singer-songwriter’s cotton button-down with beaded embroidery is a custom version of this $1,050 Prada shirt. Her Chelsea boots in black brushed leather are also part of the brand.

On Sunday, Chapman’s stylist, Candice Lambert McAndrews, posted a clip of Chapman’s performance with the caption: “I had the honor of working with Tracy Chapman at this year’s Grammys. It was such an honor. She is wonderful!”

Combs, 33, prefaced the performance by recalling his memories of hearing Chapman’s original version of “Fast Car.” He explained that the hit was his “favorite song before I even knew what a favorite song was.”

The country singer and Chapman, 59, then took the stage to perform their own cover of Chapman’s 1988 hit song during the ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The televised performance marked Chapman’s first since singing Late Night with Seth Myers 2020. She last toured in 2009. Taylor Swift and Brandi Carlile were seen standing during the performance, and the entire audience gave them a standing ovation at the end of the song.
