Tragedy as baby dies and mum fighting for her life after hit-and-run at pedestrian crossing – as six arrested

A little boy died tragically and his mother was fighting for her life after a horrific hit and run at a crosswalk.

A 30-year-old woman was walking along a crossing in Bamber, Lancashire, when she was hit by a car.

The mother was rushed to the hospital where she underwent emergency surgery to give birth to her baby boy who later died tragically.

Police have revealed that six people have been arrested in connection with the escape.

Officers are still trying to locate a dark gray Toyota Prius that failed to stop at the scene.

Lancashire Police today said a 17-year-old girl from Lostcok Hall, a 19-year-old from Bolton and a 40-year-old from Blackburn have been arrested.

All three were detained on suspicion of assisting the perpetrator and attempting to pervert justice.

They are currently being questioned in police custody.

Two boys, 16 and 17, and a 56-year-old man who were previously arrested in connection with the fatal accident have been released on bail, the statement added.

Detective Chief Inspector Jill Riley, of Lancashire Police, said: “This is an absolutely horrific incident which has resulted in the death of a young baby and left his mother very badly in hospital and my thoughts are with their loved ones.

“Our investigation is progressing well but I would still like to hear from anyone who may have footage or information that could help us piece together the events leading up to this tragic collision and what happened afterwards.”

The police called on all witnesses who saw the car before or after the tragic accident to come forward.

Police want to gather more information about the whereabouts of the dark gray Toyota Prius, registration number FY62 MXC.

All locals or residents who have footage of the collision from video surveillance, surveillance cameras, Ringo bells or mobile phones are asked to call the police on 101.

Alternatively, they should email the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at [email protected].
