When Treat Williams died in June after a motorcycle accident, he left behind a treasure trove of television and film appearances. But his latest project, which airs at the end of January, might be one of the late actor’s personal favorites.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the late actor’s wife Pam Williams says Treat “couldn’t be happier” working at FX Feud: Capote vs Swans, whose premiere is on January 31.
Created by Ryan Murphy and directed by Gus Van Sant, the limited series stars Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny, Calista Flockhart, Demi Moore and Molly Ringwald.

Pam says working on the star-studded production was a thrill for Treat, who played CBS executive Bill Paley in the new series.
“He was truly in his element working with the best of the best in every department on this project and couldn’t be happier,” says Pam, who joined Treat in New York for most of the shoot.

Treat Williams’ wife and children remember actor 7 months after his death: ‘He was and is our hero’ (Exclusive)
In the immediate aftermath of Treat’s tragic death, Pam says the show’s production team reached out with their “condolences and support,” stressing “how proud we will be of his performance.”
WITH Feud: Capote vs. Swans debuting in just a few weeks, Pam admits she and her children – Gill, 31, and Ellie, 25 – who she shares with Williams, hadn’t mentally prepared to see Treat one last time on screen.
“I haven’t thought much about it but the thought of watching his last project is horrifying – it’s not a pleasant place to be or think about – but of course we’ll be there to support him as always,” she says, adding that although seven months since Treat’s death, “it still feels like yesterday on most levels.”

While the Golden Globe and Emmy nominated actor’s death shocked fans and former cast members, it also completely blindsided Pam, Gill and Ellie as they continue to process his loss.
“I don’t think there was any preparation because of the suddenness, so I’m still struggling with the fact that it happened and he’s really gone,” says Pam. “It seems like such a hole in our family and the fabric of the world. The whole atmosphere is different.”

As the months pass, Treat’s family believes one of the easiest ways to remember him is to revisit his work.
“He left behind this beautiful legacy. That’s something you’re very lucky if your parent is an artist, especially if they’re prolific like him, because you can, in a lot of ways, still be with them through it,” Gill explains. “Even and if it is a character, his heart and his soul are actually present in all his works.”
