Trevor Noah Got a ‘Random Call’ from Jennifer Lopez to Appear in Her New Movie: ‘This Must Be a Prank’ (Exclusive)

It’s not every day that Trevor Noah gets a call from Jennifer Lopez.

The South African comedian was recently revealed as one of several celebrities to appear in Lopez’s upcoming Prime Video music film This is me… now: a love story — but when he found out about the opportunity, he couldn’t believe it was real.

“It was a random call where your phone rings and it’s Jennifer Lopez and you’re like, ‘This has got to be a joke,'” Noah, 39, tells PEOPLE. “And she wants you to come and do a cameo in her visual experience, and you’re like, ‘Wow. I mean, I don’t know what I’m doing, but OK, I’ll join.'”

Earlier this month, Lopez, 54, unveiled the trailer for This is me… now: a love storywhich arrives in tandem with her new album on February 16th. The preview presented Fraudsters star on a journey through dreamscapes and reality-based challenges to find love.

The “Jenny from the Block” singer will be joined in the film by her husband Ben Affleck — who famously inspired her 2002 album. This is me… Then — as well as celebrities including Noah, Fat Joe, Kim Petras, Post Malone, Keke Palmer, Sofia Vergara, Jenifer Lewis, Jay Shetty, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Sadhguru, Derek Hough and more.

“There’s just a fun collection of people who have come together to celebrate an icon and someone who, across genres, has really just paved his own path,” says Noah. “It was a lot of fun.”

However, despite participating in the project, Daily show The alum is still not sure what fans can expect This is me… now: a love story.

“I’m really excited to see what it is. It’s funny that I don’t know too much about it because they were very secretive about how they did it,” explains Noah. “I only know parts of what it is, but I don’t know all of it. And I’m waiting to see what it will be.”

Ahead of the full movie, J.Lo dropped a clip that doubles as the music video for the album’s lead single, “Can’t Get Enough,” which shows her marrying several different men — and none of the relationships end up working out.

Noah is currently gearing up to host the 2024 Grammy Awards, where his special will air I wish you would was nominated for best comedy album. Speaking to PEOPLE about the upcoming gig, he described the ceremony as “one of the best concerts in my opinion.”

“I don’t think there are many concerts that can match what the Grammys put on in terms of the collection of artists,” he said. “Where else are you going to get to see Dua Lipa, Burna Boy, Billie Eilish, whatever, on the same stage? It’s something I don’t take for granted and really enjoy.”

The 2024 Grammy Awards air live Sunday on CBS at 8:00 PM ET.
