Tripura Rath Yatra Accident
Lord Jagannath’s joyful Ulto Rath Yatra 2023, which marked the homecoming of the deity’s chariot, took a tragic turn when a series of sad events resulted in deaths and injuries. Ten people were electrocuted in Tripura and Odisha as a result of the majestic chariots accidentally touching high-voltage wires. Sadly, the lives of three innocent children were lost in the Unokoti region of Tripura, while three others died in the Keonjhar and Koraput districts of Odisha. The affected communities are grieving and seeking explanations after this incredibly tragic sequence of events.
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness Iskcon, based in northern Tripura, arranged for the return journey of Lord Jagannath and his sister deities, according to the Tripura Police. People touching the iron component of the wagon, which was made of iron and wood, were electrocuted when the iron upper part of the wagon, which was rotating on the national highway, came into contact with an electrical wire. The victims were burned in the streets before our eyes. While the whole car was on fire, none of us dared to intervene when many people fell to the ground nearby. A police officer who led the procession stated: The power line was disconnected and fire trucks were on the scene within minutes.
The victims include Ruhan Das, her father Rahul Das, three middle-aged women and two other children, a girl and a boy. Coincidentally, the three children were 9 years old. CM Dr. Manik Saha stated that each family of the deceased will receive Rs. 4 lakh, while each family of the injured will receive Rs. He asked the authorities to investigate how such a tall carriage was allowed to travel on the highway and also how the high-voltage power lines were laid on the national highway. He also ordered an investigation into this fact. May their souls rest in peace.
