Twist in ‘royal racism’ row as Meghan Markle could be quizzed under oath about ‘Archie’s skin colour’ claim

The Duchess of Sussex could be questioned under oath about the identity of so-called “royal racists”.

Lawyers want to question Meghan about “family matters” as part of sister Samantha Markle’s defamation lawsuit against her in the US.

And Peter Ticktin, for Samantha, said the royal family’s allegations of racism “need to be investigated”.

In the Dutch translation of his book Endgame, writer Omid Scobie identified King Charles and Princess Kate as the ones who allegedly asked Meghan and Prince Harry what color their son Archie’s skin might be.

Samantha claims she has been subjected to “worldwide hatred, contempt and ridicule” as a result of Meghan and Harry’s comments on their Netflix series and in an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021.

Her lawsuit cites Meghan’s claim that she grew up as an only child and half-sister Samantha only changed her name to Markle after she started dating Prince Harry, making her look like a “liar for profit and fame”.

Samantha’s Florida-based lawyer, Mr Ticktin, told The Sun on Sunday that the Sussexes would be required to give evidence – a formal interview under oath – as part of the US lawsuit.

Mr Ticktin said: “The issue of royal racists needs to be investigated.

“There are reasons why she left her family and turned to her family.

“This is a person who wants to be able to say horrible things and doesn’t care if she ruined the lives of people in her family

“She doesn’t care if she destroys the monarchy.”

Mr Ticktin said Meghan’s lawyers were “obstructing” their requests for information in the case in the hope the judge would throw them out.

But he said he would apply to the court next month asking them to hand over the documents.
