Tyla Makes the Crowd 'Jump' with Her Debut 2024 BET Awards Performance

Tyla brought the fire — and her country — to the 2024 BET Awards.

The South African singer, 22, took the stage during Culture’s Biggest Night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 30, to perform her latest hit, “Jump,” with Gunn and Skillibeng.

Dressed in a brown bra and skirt two-piece set and thigh-high black boots, the “Water” singer turned up the heat as she sang her song behind a cage filled with dancers painted as a giant tiger – a subtle nod to her loyal fan base, the Tigers.

Gunna and Skillibeng joined her on stage later to rap their verses, while the rising star ended her lively set — also a tribute to her Johannesburg roots — with her viral dance move “Water.”

Tyla received four nominations at the BET Awards this year, taking home wins for Best New Artist and Best International Artist.

Her latest performance comes after canceling her debut concert tour around the release of her self-titled debut album in March. It was at this time that she discovered she was dealing with the lasting effects of the injury.

“As much as this is something I’d rather deal with privately, it’s important that I share what I have to share with you today. I’ve been suffering in silence for the past year with an injury that has tragically worsened,” Tyla wrote. “I saw doctors and specialists with high hopes, but the pain only became more excruciating as did the severity of the situation.”

She added: “I am absolutely devastated to have to say this, but I will not be able to continue touring at this time. In consultation with medical professionals, it has become increasingly clear that continuing with any festival or tour dates would jeopardize my long-term health and safety.”
