While nothing could top Tyla’s iconic sand dress from the Met Gala this May, the South African artist’s look at the 2024 BET Awards came pretty close!
The rising star stepped out in a vintage Versace dress with thread detailing, an open back, halter cut-out that fell below the navel and a large front slit that revealed the animal print lining of the dress that first hit the runway in 2004. She paired the design with Jared Atelier’s $230,000 worth of natural diamonds (with a total weight of 70 carats), including natural pear-shaped morganite and diamond earrings ($12,000), a diamond ring ($33,000), natural pear-shaped morganite and diamond ring ($15,000), Jared Atelier Diamond Tennis Bracelet ($53,000), and Jared Atelier x Shy Diamond Cut Tennis Bracelet ($115,000).

Tyla, 22, who rose to international fame after releasing her hit single ‘Water’ in July 2023, has already won Best International Female Artist and is up for three more trophies, including Best R&B/Pop Female Artist. She is also set to perform at the event alongside fellow nominees Ice Spice, Victoria Monét and Bad boys star Will Smith.

Her latest look adds to a string of show-stopping outfits the singer has worn on the red carpet this year.
Following the release of her self-titled album in March, Tyla turned heads at the Met Gala in May in a gorgeous sand Balmain dress. When Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing shortened the clunky dress to the floor just above the singer’s knees, the moment instantly went viral.

At the Grammys in February, where she won Best African Music Performance, Tyla missed out on walking the carpet, but wowed in an asymmetric pistachio green gown embellished with mesh crystals, custom-made by Versace.
In early March, the artist shared a post on Instagram announcing that she was canceling the North American leg of her tour entirely and postponing her shows in Europe indefinitely due to a health condition.
