How that ninth round unfolded

How SunSport’s Chisanga Malata saw that dramatic ninth round when Tyson Fury was knocked out:

Oleksandr Usyk slowly but surely allows the gap to close, leading to him eating a big left hand in the corner.

Fury is injured and staggers around the ring. The left hand did the damage.

Fury doesn’t know where he is and eats a bunch of sharp aftershots. He defeats the count and luckily the bell saves him.

Usyk will be stripped of his title

Oleksandr Usyk faces the fact that he will be able to call himself the undisputed champion for a few more weeks.

Usyk won what was dubbed the “fight of the century” after defeating Fury by split decision in Saudi Arabia.

Fury lost his WBC title, while Usyk added his WBA, IBF and WBO belts.

And despite all the attention and build-up to the first undisputed heavyweight fight in more than 25 years, his status will only last a fraction of that time.

Boxing journalist Dan Rafael reported that the winner of tonight’s bout will retain the undisputed title for “less than two weeks.”

Both Fury and Usyk’s contracts are said to dictate that they must vacate the IBF title before late mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic’s fight with Daniel Dubois.

Lennox Lewis breaks his silence

Lennox Lewis – the last man to hold all the heavyweight titles – took to Twitter to congratulate Oleksandr Usyk on following in his footsteps and becoming the undisputed ruler of the division.

He tweeted: “Welcome to the club! z@Usykaa.

“Tonight we witnessed a fierce fight and written history.

“I was happy to welcome one of these incredible champions to the Undisputed HW club, and tonight it was Oleksandr The Great.

“Looking forward to seeing them again. @usykaa proved it’s never too late to add to your legacy. Congratulations!

“Fury will learn something from this and will bounce back! Losing is part of the game too, it’s how you react to losing that makes the difference.”

Fury inquired about the post-fight comments

Tyson Fury was asked about his claim that the judges gave Oleksandr Usyk the win because his native Ukraine is at war.

He said: “Whatever happened, it’s not up to the fighters.

“One of the judges made me win, two didn’t. It was what it was.”
