Urui Ashfaq

Urooj Ashfaq is one of the best new comedy stars in India. She is known for her dark and absurd humour. She has also worked as a comedy content writer and has written for shows like Son of Abish, Die Trying and many videos for All India Comedy (AIB). While she is a talented writer, her forte is stand-up comedy. Apart from stand-up comedy and content writing, she has also acted in several videos and a web series Pushpavalli (2017).

Urooj Ashfaq was born on Thursday, August 24, 1995 (25 years old in 2020). She grew up in Abu Dhabi and moved to Mumbai when she was 12 years old. She attended school at the Ryan International School in Mumbai. Later, she obtained a degree in psychology from Jai Hind College in Mumbai. She won several stand-up comedy competitions during her time in Mumbai; until she eventually made her debut on TLC’s Queen of Comedy (2017), India’s first ever female stand-up comedy show.

Urooj Ashfaq started her career as a comedy content writer in 2014. She worked with Abish Mathew on the comedy talk show Son of Abish. In 2016, she interned at All India Bakchod (AIB) for two months. In 2017, Urooj wrote content for another AIB video, Honest Engineering Campus Placements. She also wrote content for the Amazon Prime series Die Trying (2018), starring Kenny Sebastian.

Urooj appeared in the AIB video “If Apps Were People (2017)” where she played the role of “Supriya”, a girl trying to avoid distractions from mobile apps, which went viral.

  • Urooj Ashfaq participated in the anti-CAA rally held at the historic August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. Thousands of protesters gathered there to protest against the Citizenship Act. Apparently, the Citizenship (Amendment) Act has received a lot of criticism for discrimination based on religion as the protesters believe that the Citizenship Act is sectarian and discriminates against followers of Islam.   • On March 19, 2018, Uruji was again slammed for being insensitive to Hinduism. She tweeted that beef should be cooked at the upcoming Hindu religious ceremony called Yagnya in Madhya Pradesh.
