Ustad Amanat Ali khan (1922-1974) was a Pakistani singer, ghazal singer and composer. He belongs to Patiala Gharana who played traditional and classical Hindustani music. He sang a duet with his brother Ustad Bade Fateh Ali Khan, which was broadcast by Radio Pakistan Radio Lahore. In the late 1950s and early 1960s, the singer achieved great fame. In 1969, Khan was awarded the Distinguished Performance Award by the President of Pakistan. He is also known as the “Master of Patiala Gharana” for his extraordinary voice. The singer died on September 18, 1974.

Ustad Amanat Ali Khan’s most famous songs include “Mora Jiya Na Lage”, “Pyar Nahi Hai Sur Se”, “Dil Mein Meetthe Meetthe Dard”, “Piya Nahi Aaye” and “Chup Dhawen Te”. The poem “Insha ji utho” was written by the famous Pakistani poet Ibne Insha. This poem or ghazal is considered cursed as most members of Amanat Ali Khan’s family, including Amanat Ali himself, died within a few months of singing the ghazal . Ustad Amanat Ali Khan wanted to create a work of art depicting the poignancy of urban life in Karachi and Lahore when he came across Ibne Insha of this poem. Shortly after reading the poem, Amanat Ali expressed his desire to sing it and met with Ibn Insa to tell him how he wanted to sing it.

Amanat Ali Khan performed the ghazal for the first time in January 1974 at a concert on Pakistan Television (PTV). Ghazal became a super hit song, so popular that the audience demanded to play it again and again. He died at the age of 52, just a few months after “Ghazal” became a hit. Some time later, Khalil Ahmed, the producer of Ghazal, also passed away. In 1978, Ibn Insha died of cancer at the age of 50, the same day that Ghazal was broadcast on PTV. In the last days of his life, while Ibn Insa was hospitalized, he wrote many letters to his friends. In one of his letters he wrote,
Yeh manhoos ghazal kitno ki jaan ley gi…? ‘ (How many more lives will this cursed poem take?)”
After Amanat Ali Khan’s death, his eldest son Amjad Amanat Ali Khan started singing the same ghazal song and in 2002 Died in the year. Later, in 2006, Asad Amanat Ali Khan, son of Amanat Ali Khan, performed at a concert on PTV. After months of singing ghazal songs, Assad died in 2007 at the age of 52 due to bad luck or the curse of ghazal.

After the ghazal song “Insha ji utho” and the serial deaths of people associated with it, the ghazal song was considered cursed. In an interview, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, the youngest son of Amanat Ali, when asked about the cursed ghazal, replied:
When he died, everyone started to associate it with death. ” He added: “Then Ibn Inshah himself died. My elder brother Amjad bhai also used to sing this song. he died. I don’t remember the producer’s name, but he’s dead too. And then there’s Assad Bai. “
He further added that neither he nor anyone in his family is superstitious. He said,
Life and death are in God’s hands. We have no control over it. These are just the painful memories that the ghazal has given us. “
Although he admitted that his family did not allow him to sing ghazal songs, he was subject to an “emotional ban”.

- According to his brother Fateh Ali Khan, Amanat Ali wrote the lyrics “while flying from East Pakistan to Nepal at the invitation of the King of Nepal in the late 1960s” Kab aa’o gey”.
