Val Chmerkovskiy Reveals Painful Neck Injury from 2023: ‘I Went Through Some Stuff’

Val Chmerkovskiy shares his pain.

On Wednesday, Dancing with the stars Pro, 37, took to Instagram to address the painful neck injury he suffered last year, along with some photos taken while he was in hospital.

Chmerkovskiy posted pictures of his X-rays, along with another showing him in a neck brace and connected to a drip. A voice behind the camera, which appeared to be his wife Jenna Johnson, 29, said: “Okay, time to walk!”

“Let’s do it,” replied the dancer, saying he would have to take the drip off.

The next image shows Chmerkovskiy lying in a hospital bed, while another photo reveals a scar and bruises on the front of his neck. Among the carousel of videos and photos, Chmerkovskiy also shared a picture of himself cuddling his 13-month-old son Romeo, with some love from his dogs as he lies in bed in another sweet clip.

Chmerkovskiy showed off his dance moves in another video, as well as posting a picture of his shadow. “This time last year I went through some stuff,” he captioned the post.

The “Dancing with the Stars” professional also published a photo of him with bruises on his neck.

Chmerkovskiy kept quiet about the incident at the time, but said he “almost lost” his “ability to move” in a March 2023 post.

While sharing a message reflecting on his year, the dancer included videos from the hospital wearing a neck brace, despite not going into further detail.

“thank you friends, fans and family for the good wishes. This past year I had a son and lost a grandfather. I felt better than ever and almost lost the ability to move,” he wrote at the time with a montage clip set to Frank Ocean’s song “Pink + White” .

“I fell deeper in love with my wife and my heart was torn apart by a failed marriage elsewhere. Life is hard, and the older you get the harder it gets. But there is nothing more peaceful than tomorrow for a man who is going through pain today. It all passes , always. I’m happy that I was able to feel it all,” he added.

A representative for Chmerkovskiy did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
