Valentino Rossi is a professional motorcycle road racer from Italy. Rossi is considered one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time. He has six MotoGP World Championships and nine Grand Prix World Championships. He has won the championship in five different classes (125cc, 250cc, 500cc, 800cc and 990cc) and has the longest winning career (20 years and 211 days). To date, he has appeared on the podium 235 times, finishing 115 times in first place, 65 times in second place and 53 times in third place. He competed for Aprilia, Yamaha and Ducati among others. He competed in 21 countries and was once one of the highest paid athletes in the world. - Rossi started racing when he was quite young. Karting was his first racing passion. His father bought him a 100 cc national karting engine. He was only five years old then.
- In 1990, he won the regional title. He then turned to minimoto, where he won a number of regional races. He finished fifth in the national karting championship in Parma. In 1993 he competed in the 125cc Italian Sport Production Championship. The following year he raced the Sandroni prototype.
- In 1995, he moved to Aprilia and won the Italian championship up to 125 cc. He finished third at the European Championship. During the 1996 championship season, he made his Grand Prix debut. At the 1996 Austrian Grand Prix, he won his first Grand Prix podium. He finished third.
