Valerie Bertinelli Marks 1 Year Since Finalizing Divorce with Tom Vitale: ‘What a Difference a Year Makes’

Valerie Bertinelli looks back on the past year with gratitude.

November 22 marks one year since the Food Network star finalized her divorce from ex-husband Tom Vitale.

Bertinelli celebrated the milestone by reposting her Instagram video from a year ago announcing that her divorce was official. In a November 2022 post, she shared a clip taken at the airport on her way to see her son Wolfgang Van Halen and revealed the news.

“My lawyer just called. The papers are all signed. They will be filed,” she said. “On 11/22/22 I’m officially fucking divorced. Happily divorced. Finally. It’s finally over.”

She ended the video with, “Yes!” Bertinelli also wrote the words “happily divorced” over her recording.

To mark the one-year milestone on Wednesday, she wrote alongside the repost: “What a difference a year makes 🥹🥰.”

In May, she shared a similarly joyful post celebrating one year since filing for divorce. “What a difference age makes 💛🩷✌🏻”, she wrote then.

Bertinelli has been candid with fans about her difficult journey through past trauma. In August, she opened up about her “healing journey” and the struggles she faced in the past.

“I think in the middle of the healing journey we forget to pat ourselves on the back and really look back at how far we’ve come. I know I’ve been guilty of that,” she said.

Bertinelli went on to explain how the “tiny voices” in her head can sometimes win out – but that’s rare.

These voices made her wonder: “‘How on earth did I tolerate the unbearable, and what was I thinking? And ‘I’m so stupid I should have known better, and I’m an idiot how could I be so duped, and why did I protected them for so long? And I should have left earlier,’ she gave examples.

“Fortunately, those days are WAY fewer and fewer,” she added. “I can really, truly give myself compassion because I know I’ve done my best to love, to be generous, to be compassionate, and to have patience, even though I’ve never been given the same respect.”

Her inspirational post was accompanied by a fill-in-the-blank TikTok filter video: “I’ll end 2023 with _,” and Bertinelli’s response was “no regrets.”
