News about Vanessa Salmon

One of television’s most skilled chefs is NIGELLA LAWSON, who has hosted several popular cooking series and has sold more than eight million copies worldwide. Nigella’s Cook, Eat, Repeat is one of them, and she’s back on the BBC tonight (Wednesday 9 March).

The show pays tribute to Nigella Salmon’s mother, Vanessa Salmon, whose death from liver cancer had a profound effect on Nigella’s perception of her own health. The name of the show is also the name of one of Nigella’s books.

As she approached her 60th birthday in 2020, Nigella began to reflect on the loved ones she had lost. In addition to losing her mother in 1985 at the age of 48, Nigella’s first husband, John Diamond, died in 2001 of throat cancer at the age of 47.

Her sister Thomasina also died of breast cancer at the age of 32 in 1993. In a recent interview in honor of her 60th birthday, Nigella was candid about her past losses and how the experience taught her to ignore her age while active. . . and healthy.

The British cook and author admitted in an interview with Good Housekeeping that she could never take it for granted that she would still be alive at this age. My sister was 32 when she passed, followed by my mother, 48, and John, 47. So even if I were the type to plan ahead, I doubt I’d imagine myself in this situation, Nigella added.

Nigella continues: “I was raised by my mother, a cook from whom I learned much, whose grimly exuberant output in the kitchen was put into unspeakably stark perspective and fueled by a growing pattern of self-denial and self-punishment; it is not an uncommon trait in mothers. “Two weeks before she died, she began to eat for the first time, she declared giddily, without shame or care.”

The chef, now 62, went on to reflect on how her mother’s relationship with food influenced her own: “How terribly horrible to allow yourself unlimited enjoyment of food only when you are prognosticated to die.” I don’t want to eat just to eat; I want to maximize my pleasure. I carefully consider each square of chocolate before choosing one to let it slowly melt on my lips.
