Velmurugan was born on Wednesday, March 5, 1980 (40 years old in 2020) and his birthplace is Viruthachalam, Tamil Nadu. His star sign is Pisces. He studied at the Government Boys’ High School in Mudhanai (until 10th grade) and Government Boys’ High School in Virudachalam till 11th and 12th grade. According to some sources, he studied at Jayapriya Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School in Virudhachalam, Tamil Nadu. He obtained a DEE diploma in music and a DMT (Diploma in Music Teacher Training) from the Government Polytechnic, Coimbatore. He then pursued a degree at the University of Tamil Nadu.

His father’s name is Dhanasekaran and his mother’s name is Amirthambal. Two years after his mother’s death, his father also passed away. Velmurugan has an elder brother, Periyasamy.

He made his debut as a singer with the Tamil song “Madura Kulunga Kulunga” from Subramaniapuram (2008).
