Velmurugan was born on Wednesday, March 5, 1980 (40 years old in 2020) and his birthplace is Viruthachalam, Tamil Nadu. His star sign is Pisces. He studied at the Government Boys’ High School in Mudhanai (until 10th grade) and Government Boys’ High School in Virudachalam till 11th and 12th grade. According to some sources, he studied at Jayapriya Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School in Virudhachalam, Tamil Nadu. He obtained a DEE diploma in music and a DMT (Diploma in Music Teacher Training) from the Government Polytechnic, Coimbatore. He then pursued a degree at the University of Tamil Nadu.

He made his debut as a singer in the Tamil song “Madura Kulunga Kulunga” from Subramaniapuram in 2008. He has lent his voice to several hit Hindi songs such as “Aadungada Machaan” from Naadodigal (2009), “Sangili Bungili” from Muni 2: Kanchana (2011), “Aaravalli” from Avargalum Ivargalum (2011), “Local Boys” from Ethir Neechal (2013), “Atha Ponnu” from Ivan Yarendru Therikiratha (2017) and “Sandalee” from Semma (2019).
