Victor began his career in folk music, creating The Sugar Shoppe with Laurie Hood, Peter Mann and Lee Harris. He starred in the 1972 Toronto version of Godspell with Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Gila Radner, Dave Thomas, Paul Shaffer and Martin Short. The performer appeared on Broadway in the first performances of Deathtrap, Sweeney Todd and Noises OFF, as well as in the original Broadway ensemble of Assassins and the Damn Yankees revival in the 1990s.

He played Frederic in A Little Night Music at the Los Angeles Opera in 2005. He appeared as Ben in the highly acclaimed Encores show. His first film appearance was in Godspell, in which he portrayed the role of Jesus. In 1993, he appeared as a character in the film Sleepless in Seattle.
