Vijay Kavish is a popular Indian film and television actor, best known for playing various roles in Ramanand Sagar’s epic television series Ramayana.

Vijay Kavesh was born in Mumbai. He had a passion for acting since childhood and attended the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi after graduation.
Profession
After graduating from the National Institute of Design, Kavish made his film debut in the Bollywood hit film Salma (1985). He made his television debut in Ramanand Sagar’s epic mythological television series Ramayana (1987). In Ramayana, Kavish played three different characters, Lord Shiva, Mayasura and Maharishi Valmiki.

Mayasura is the adoptive father of Mandodari (Ravan’s wife). Kavish also played the role of Maharishi Valmiki in other projects of Ramanand Sagar; such as Uttar Ramayan and Lav Kush.

Ramayana went on to become one of the most successful television shows in India, and Vijay Kavesh’s acting skills made him a household name in India. Apart from Ramayana, he also starred in many other popular television shows, including Vikram o Betal and Krishna. In Krishna, he played the dual roles of Ugrasena and Lord Shiva.

He also appeared in the popular Doordarshan show “Idhar Udhar” (1985) along with Ratna Pathak and Supriya Pathak.

Facts/Trivia
- His father was a dialogue writer.
- He was just 22 years old when he played the triple role of Lord Shiva, Mayasura and Maharishi Valmiki in Ramayana.
- In an interview, he revealed that initially, Ramanand Sagar approached him to play Lord Shiva in Ramayana; however, as the show progressed, he was asked to play the roles of Mayashura and Maharishi Valmiki. Interestingly, Kavesh played these roles so seriously that it was a mystery to the audience that all three roles were played by the same person.
- He reportedly wrapped a real snake around his neck while playing Lord Shiva in Ramayana.
