Ammirati seemed destined to clear it up, before his private parts seemed to get in the way.
He subsequently finished 12th in his group – failing to make the final for a chance at a medal.
The moment immediately went viral on social media.
Speaking for the first time since his disappointment, Ammirati revealed that he had been carrying an injury during the build-up.
He said: “It’s a big disappointment. I’m a bit down because I didn’t miss anything in the third attempt at 5.70m.
“What I missed was a bit of jumping in practice to fine-tune the settings. Just a technical session.
“I had to give up the last two, because after a small unit in the adductor, I gave priority to the race. I was 100 percent physically, but I was a little lacking…
“The conditions were good, I went to the competition for the first time without any stress.
