Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri is an Indian politician from Karnataka. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party and was elected Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly in July 2019.

Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri was born on Monday, July 10, 1961 in Sirsi, Karnataka (age 58 in 2019). His zodiac sign is Cancer. He received his primary education from a local school in Karnataka. He pursued his bachelor’s degree in commerce from Karnataka University, Dharwad, Karnataka. Vishweshwar was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the RSS, when he was in college.
He served as office bearer and state secretary of ABVP for 5 years. Vishweshwar was a very influential leader who always wanted to serve the people through politics.

Profession
Vishweshwar’s tenure in ABVP led him to become a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In 1991, he was appointed as the district secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He eventually rose through the ranks in the BJP. In 1994, he contested the Karnataka Assembly elections from Ankola constituency in Karnataka and won. He was elected as a provincial councilor. His work was appreciated by the people of the constituency and he was re-elected in Ankola constituency in 1999 and 2004.
During the 2008 delimitation movement, the Ankola constituency was abolished. Visheshwar then contested from the newly created Sirsi constituency and won. He was re-elected in 2013 and 2018. In 2008, he was appointed as Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister in the BS Yeddyurappa cabinet. In July 2018, HD Kumaraswamy’s coalition government failed in a confidence vote, the BJP came to power, and BS Yeddyurappa became the new chief minister of Karnataka. On July 30, 2019, Vishweshwar was proposed for the post of Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly. He was unanimously elected Speaker.

In July 2011, Karnataka launched a campaign to include the Bhagavad Gita in the Karnataka government school syllabus. Vishweshwar, who was a cabinet minister at the time, supported the move. Several people were against the movement, to which Vishweshwar responded:
Those who oppose the teachings of the Gita should leave India”
His remarks were criticized by many and he was severely criticized.
