Voice of Disney's Princess Jasmine Says She and Aladdin Cast Keep in Touch 32 Years Later: 'It's Continuous' (Exclusive)

2024 might be a whole new world in some ways compared to 1992, but Aladdin The cast is still close 32 years later.

Linda Larkin, who has voiced Disney’s Princess Jasmine since that first film won over audiences, spoke with PEOPLE aboard Disney Cruise Line’s recent media A Disney treasure ship approx Aladdinher legacy and her close relationship with her castmates, including Scott Weinger (voice of Aladdin) and Jonathan Freeman (Jafar).

“I keep in touch with everyone,” says Larkin, 54. “I was with Jonathan Freeman last weekend right before I got on the ship. I was with him for three days at an event. We’re really trying to work together as much as possible, we’re still shooting our votes for Disney,”

“We all play the current voices as well,” she adds. “But we rarely work together in the studio; they usually make us come individually. So we see each other at live events.”

Larkin, Weinger, 49, and Freeman, 74, were among a star-studded cast that included notable actors such as the late Robin Williams (Genie) and Gilbert Gottfried (Iago).

Broadway star Lea Salonga provided the voice for Princess Jasmine (and, later, the titular warrior princess in 1998’s Mulan), while Brad Kane did the same for Aladdin himself.

And when Larkin and her former co-stars get together today, their dynamic is “absolutely continuous,” she tells PEOPLE.

“We’ve been friends for 34 years — so for Scott and I, our entire adult lives. And that’s just a legacy that we share that’s very unique to us,” explains Larkin.

Original ‘Aladdin’ stars: Where are the cast of Disney’s animated classic now?

Larkin’s own experience as the voice of Princess Jasmine is something that has developed beautifully over the past three decades, including being named a Disney Legend in 2011 alongside fellow Disney princesses Jodi Benson (The little mermaidAriel), Paige O’Hara (Beauty and the Beast‘s Belle) and Anika Noni Rose (The princess and the frogTiana), as well as Salonga, 53.

The actress is especially touched by today’s kids who still see themselves in her character, admitting that it’s “something I didn’t know would happen all these years later.”

“That a new generation will come along, that they’ll take something out of the character of Jasmine and reflect that back to me, and then create an opportunity for me to understand the character in a new way,” says Larkin.
